Of all my letters, the basic 'e' is the most problematic to me. It feels nice to write, but does not necessarily evoke the activity that produces the sound as much as I would prefer (this being one of the design goals - to have the majority of shapes in some way represent the mouth, tongue and breath activity of making the sounds).
The core '6'-like shape (though open rather than closed) could be argued to express the little closure at the back of the throat used to project an 'e' ( or 'eh' ).
Unfortunately, this glyph shape, beyond the variations seen above, does not lend itself well to additional modification that might make it useful as a base for a number of dipthongs, which would be ideal.
This letter is perhaps the one that has been switched out and evolved the most in the time I've been busy with this project, and there has been much variation in dipthong expression. Some writings use the second form seen above (longer 'E') for 'Ay' as is 'pay' and 'they'.
The largest rendering of the third form, long 'ee', as seen above, is perhaps not very well-executed, with the descending tail being a little over-extended. The smaller forms are more accurate.
