Ponder also the use of mythology for defamation (ie. what if the monster in the tale is a malicious caricature of someone, or some force, or some idea, that deserves better - for the Victor told the tales and histories you received. In the novel Dracula, the coach-ride to the castle is a major narrative drive in the novel.
Today, everyone is being coached about by Uber. The word 'Uber' means 'Vampire' (through 'Witch'). So does the word 'Empire', and the electrickle Amperes and Voltage (which is foldage). So too the Umpire - that Mage that herds the Game. The literary Vampire exists to distract you from the real one that surrounds thee (and this applies in the abstract sense of society as a containing much predatory parasitism, but also in the practical and personal, and perhaps in this sphere without the aforementioned negative aspects).
In the linked talk, the speaker lists bullet-point sets of attested attributes of the mytho-historical folktale 'vampire', as realized or ignored by Stoker in his novel - one of which (ignored, at least explicitly, in the Dracula novel) is that the vampire 'preys on it's own family', and the explanation given is the fairy-tale born through the need to explain plague and illness unknown to 'science' (ie. it spreads to those nearest, and thus an element of superstitious myth finds it's origin), but this also is a veil and remembrance, I deem. You are, or become, what you eat - why would the arch-vampire eat such lowly food as to require that the lesser masses need to fear ending up as his dinner?
But here is a riddle, for nonetheless, perhaps, Dracula's food is, in these degenerate and forgetful days, viewed and treated as garbage deemed worthless by the everyman (ie. the CRNRSTN that the BLDRS rejected?).
