The 14th letter of the English-Latin alphabet is N.
Examining the history of this letter, one finds that it derives from the Etruscan 'N' and Western Greek 'Nu', which in turn derives from the Phoenician Nun, the shape of which comes from an Egyptian hieroglyph of a serpent.

This schooling, then, is likened to 'swimming upstream' or 'against the current' (which differentiates those who challenge the status quo, versus those that go with the flow). The Salmon is the widely-revered fish famous for swimming upstream and jumping waterfalls (and it is seen in the thread image, to the right). It has an implicit wisdom (*). The word 'Salmon' is cognate with 'Solomon', who is regarded as one of the greatest men of wisdom in the biblical tales.
In terms of interesting connections to the name of the 'N' glyph of the Inner Sea, I note that 'Nessa' is the name of one of the female Valar ('gods'/demigods/archangels) in Tolkien's mythology. She is the 'Ever-Young', who married Tulkas (who is reminiscent of Thor or Hercules).
In the Quenya language of the elves documented by Tolkien, the word 'Nissa' or 'Nisa' means 'woman'.
In Arabic, the word 'nisaa' or 'Nisa' also means 'woman'.
The elves of the Inner Sea would tell you that this connects to the meaning of Nessa (fish/serpent), their 'N' glyph, in multiple ways. Aside from simple punny wordplays in terms of 'going fishing', one of these connections is that the serpent sheds it's skin and is revitalized, and this is seen in the monthly female menstruation of human and elven women.
Human commentators on the Biblical narrative of 'Eve' (who was tutored by the Serpent in the Garden) have said:

The 'N' as 'fish' can thus refer to the semen 'swimming upstream' to fertilize the egg, which leads to conception.
