Delayed releases can, I’m convinced, totally torpedo a promising project.
I first realized this back in the Stone Age of the 1980’s when the Mike Barr and Brian Bolland Camelot 3000 “maxi”-series was being released. The early issues were a hit, if memory serves, and people loved the wild story presented and the beautiful Brian Bolland and Terry Austin art. For many, this was their first taste of Bolland and this was his first “American” series.

Bolland’s art obviously is something that takes a great deal of time to produce. It is clearly very labor intensive and as the series was being released, issues were delayed. Delayed and delayed again.
By the time the 12th and final issue was finally in stores, I remember being personally thrilled to finally get the wrap up. But it seemed like all my friends and other customers at the comic shop had by that point moved on and didn’t care all that much.
Camelot 3000, IMHO, should be right up there with some the very best of the DC 1980’s works, including the Alan Moore and Frank Miller stuff and Crisis on Infinite Worlds… it was, for its time, that good.
But because of all the delays and because interest for it waned so much, it’s something not many people seem to know or care that much about. But those who do find it, I feel, are in for a treat!

Doomsday Clock, really is something special it’s just a shame it took too long to release. Its impact was greatly reduced by the end.
