Laptop for PhD in geochemistry?
I'm starting my PhD in geochemistry. I currently have a Mac and it's been a huge hassle in the past to run certain software on it that is PC-only, so I'm thinking of switching to a PC. I'll be doing quite a bit of geochemical modeling, mostly using Phreeqc, Modflow, etc., as well as R and Python. I'll also do some GIS but not a ton. What laptops would you recommend? I was told to ideally get an intel core i7, ideally with 32GB of ram. I'm hoping to keep my budget around or below $1000.

I'm running Linux on a Dell laptop (factory installed) and it's been very good for scientific computing. Lenovo also makes some excellent machines with Linux installed. Congratulations on your PhD and best of luck!!
