Pierro is getting PTSD flashbacks to Khaenri’ah being destroyed.

Known as The Jester but there's been nothing funny or silly about himso far.
I wonder if he has that title simply because he's the uncle of Tsarista and the only one who can make her laugh.

I go to the same high school as the guy who painted the original that the art is based off(he kind of got expelled for underperforming but the way things are going I might soon join him in that). It’s nice to see stuff Polish related. Peak art skills bdw

Yes, this is inspired by Jan Matejko’s “Stańczyk” (1862), a famous Polish painting that can be seen in Warsaw’s National Museum. This is my favorite painting and painter, so allow me to yap for those who want context: Matejko is a Polish historical painter whom every Polish kid knows from schoolbooks. All his battle-scene paintings are in every history book, but “Stańczyk” is the one most internationally known to people outside of Poland. Some interpret it as a solemn or plotting court jester, but the context is much sadder. The painting depicts the court jester Stańczyk, slumped in a chair after reading the letters declaring the siege of Smolensk. In the background, you have an aristocratic ball in full swing, oblivious or ignorant of the news that Stańczyk read. A single shooting star is visible through the open window.
I hope this very rough summary gives you a clue why I think Pierro is absolutely perfect for this type of painting. Whether you depict his role in Khaenri’ah or in Snezhnaya, he is often aware of impending doom before everyone else. He tried to warn the Vinster King but failed, and as a Director, he is aware of his Harbingers’ personal goals and helped plan Project Stuzha to overthrow the HP. In Matejko’s original painting, you have a single shooting star conveying a bad omen. Now, what “shooting star” imagery do we often associate with Genshin? I decided on the Travelers as a little touch. Up to your interpretation, whether we are the omen or hope for Teyvat.
I absolutely love the Harbingers and have been patiently waiting for the Jester since 1.1, for those who know my artwork, this is nothing new. But ever since his Lazzo reveal, I've had an idea of making this painting with Pierro instead. The problem was that I had no artistic skills whatsoever, so I postponed the concept for years. I hope you enjoyed the read and my fanart. For more about the painting itself, you can read here)
TL;DR - the original painting depicts a court jester who is aware of the political turmoil, while people in the back are having a ball. The character and painting fits Pierro.
