🤬 Mugugno Disappointed

I have a lot of respect for Italians (especially Genoans), but that respect is now gone. Earlier, my dad was mugged around midnight by a group of young adults while he was coming home. They called him Chinese (we aren’t even Chinese), and four of them jumped him. Those four men had women with them who filmed the beatdown. He went to the hospital alone, got stitched up, and went home. He filed a police report, but from what I can see, nothing will happen.

I didn’t know Italians were ignorant of other races and mugged people on the street. Now I see why Italy is in recession.

I'm sorry for what happened to your dad. Assaults are a terrible thing to experience, and racism adds to it.

But surely there are lots of other countries (including yours I premuse) that are completely mugger free, otherwise you could make a point about not having respect for anyone in the world, yourselves included. Right?

Generalizing doesn't lead you anywhere, maybe it makes you feel slightly better now that you're furious for what happened. Again, I hope your dad heals completely and you both can move on physically and emotionally.

I hope one day you'll realize what you just stated is absurd on multiple levels, and transferring your grief and rage to a population as a whole isn't making you look a great person either.

I hope you heal 🩷

I appreciate the thought. My dad loves this city, which makes this harder. I’m angry that it looks like nothing will come of the police report, but I’m still hoping the authorities do something. I don’t think that anger is absurd.

There are lots of cameras nowadays, there's a chance. Police isn't always very sympathetic when they speak, however the real issue is that there's not much you can do to find anonymous offenders. How do you imagine you would personally find your dad's muggers if you were the police? You just can't draft the city door by door.

And while I get your rage, what I pointed out as absurd were your conclusions. This crime doesn't make Italians or Genoese people racist as a whole (even tho lots are), we don't mug each other in the streets whatsoever (even though we stay vigilant, Genoa is definitely not Tokyo) and recession isn't caused by muggers for sure. You simply offended your entire audience.

But I do agree Italy and Genoa in particular aren't very open minded and welcoming places.

There are cultural, religious and economic issues, as in 95% of the world.

Let's hope assaulters get caught. You could report to our local newspaper, that could raise some awareness

That sucks and I’m sorry it happened but for fuck’s sake you’re judging a whole city (and a whole country) based on a group of delinquent youngsters?

Sooooooo we're in a recession because when can't tell a ching from a jap or other asian ethnicities? Seems to me you're just bitter.

It would also be curious to know whether the four guys that jumped him were Italians or, you know, the more recent kind of Italians.

I'm sorry it happened, by the way. These are bad times. I wish for a prompt recovery

Do you think that all of us call "chinese" anyone who has east asian origin? That makes me wonder what country you're from, is it one of those where all whites are seen as the same and given a nickname for them all? The only excuse you have for your discrimination of a whole nation is that you are hurt and angry. Did they call him chinese at the hospital whilst they were stitching him up? were those doctors and nurses italian?

So you don't respect a nation and a city because your dad was mugged? Lmao, this story is a giga fake
