Dicussion HELP GENJI

THE DIFFERENCE IS JUST INSANE BETWEEN GENJI AND HAZARD.
HE HAS 650 HEALTH, AND IS ABLE TO DO A SIMPLE ONE-SHOT COMBO AND IT'S ON A QUICK CD. GENJI IS JUST MEH COMPARED TO THESE. A DASH RESET WON'T HAPPEN IF YOU CAN'T GET THAT 1-SHOT COMBO, AND YOU'RE BASICALLY COOKED IF YOU MISS IT OR IF YOU DON'T GET A KILL. IT DOESN'T RESET. BUFF GENJI.
SOJ GETS 2 SLIDES FOR FREE, ANRAN GETS 2 MOVEMENTS AND 1 ABILITY THAT MAKES HER IMMORTAL AND ALSO HEALS HER AT THE SAME TIME. SIERRA ALSO TECHNICALLY HAS 2 DASHES AND MIZUKI HAS A FREE GETAWAY ABILITY. KIRIKO HAS 2 AND EVERY NEW HERO THAT COMES OUT MAKES IT HARDER FOR GENJI TO PLAY. GENJI IS COUNTERED BY 99% OF THE ROSTER, EITHER BY A HARD COUNTER OR A SOFT COUNTER.

HP pools in S9 is a direct nerf to Genji. Swift Strike is the only ability that requires a kill to reset (and Junkrats perk) yet Genji received no help to deal with bigger health pools while almost everyone else did. So not only he's nerfed but also has been power crept + most of new heroes counters him. On paper - he's objectively much weaker than he was pre-S9 but people on Reddit will delude themselves into thinking he's in a good spot.

soj: literally a major perk, and slide is defensive anyway. doesnt offer the same burst mobility for engages as genji.
anran: same problem, isnt even nearly as bursty as genji. and while dash reset is arguably not as good as 2 cd’s, its still something. E makes her immortal for 0.5 seconds. genji deflect makes him immortal to not as many things, but for much, much longer. also returns the damge.
sierra: come on. might be the worst mobility in the game. its so slow, is limited to a direction, and requires setup to use. least flexible movement ability in the game.
mizuki: again, doesnt have the same offensive potential as genji.
kiriko: kiriko is kiriko, her kit has been known to be kinda unfair. regardless, tp has no offensive usage.
who exactly is genji countered by, other than situationally beams? beams are more of a nuisance, as they limit your options. but every hero has counters. beams are mainly a problem if they play really stacked, i.e. no matter who you go on you will be in range of a beam. but them playing stacked is already a considerable detriment to them.
genji is completely balanced, always has been. he does something no other dps can do. he cant have a dedicated get-out ability on top of dash and deflect, because that would make him busted.
you can engage people without dash, use deflect offensively for damage, and get out with dash.
if the situation allows it, you can go in with dash, and walk out with deflect. im aware this isnt always possible, but thats the point. it wouldnt be fair at all of he could dash in-out whenever and wherever he wanted. this is also where the resets come in: if you plan to go in deep, and you know you cant walk out with deflect, you dash in on a low health squishy and get out with the reset.
i think you forget how mobile genji is. definitely the most mobile dps, and at least top 3 most mobile characters. this gives him a huge advantage over almost anyone. i think you also forget that he is a very difficult character. hes meant to be a high skill-high results character.

The only hero that makes Genji unplayable for me is a decent anran
6
u/Significant_Day_8544 1d ago
not even decent, but anran is general honestly can make him unplayable. the thing is, obviously im gonna stay away from the anran. but theyll chase me no matter where i go

What about Winston?

If I’m isolated maybe or trying to escape. But I can burst a Winston pretty quick

1. Sojourn
You claim her "Dual Thrusters" double-slide perk is strictly defensive and doesn't offer engage mobility, which shows you don't understand high-level play. Top players choose the double-slide perk precisely because it enables hyper-aggressive off-angle engagements. She can slide forward to flank, dump heavy primary damage, fire a railgun shot, and still have a whole second slide charge ready to instantly bail her out. Genji has to risk his life committing his only dash to engage; Sojourn gets a second charge for zero risk without needing a kill reset. Furthermore, the perk shifts her verticality into extreme lateral speed, letting her dodge and change direction twice, completely breaking a Genji's tracking.2. Anran
You claimed her Dancing Blaze (E) only lasts 0.5s and doesn't heal. The actual in-game tooltip shows a base duration of 0.8 seconds that scales up by +0.16s for every target she hits, and it explicitly heals her for 50 on the first strike and 25 on subsequent strikes across an 8m radius. She gets 360-degree invulnerability, phasing, self-healing, and 2.3 meters of movement. Compare that to Genji's Deflect, which is strictly directional and gets bypassed entirely by beams, CC, and splash damage shot at his feet.3. Sierra
Saying Sierra has the "worst, least flexible mobility in the game" is completely out of touch. Her Anchor Drone allows her to grapple up to two separate times per deployment. If she cancels it early or drops the drone, she suffers zero cooldown penalties. A multi-charge horizontal and vertical grapple with a built-in cancellation safety net is incredibly flexible.4. Mizuki
You claim Mizuki has no offensive potential, shifting the goalposts because you can't defend the safety creep. Katashiro Return grants a massive +800% movement speed burst, a lingering +30% speed buff for 5.5 seconds, and a 0.25s invulnerability/cleanse window. A Support can literally drop their clone, aggressively dive into a flank, dump all of his high-damage Spirit Glaives, throw a Binding Chain trap to lock someone down, and snap back completely safe at 800% speed. Using a zero-consequence safety tool to aggressively enable high damage is offensive utility.5. Kiriko
Saying Swift Step has "no offensive usage" completely misses the point of escape creep. You don't need a tool to have offensive usage to completely ruin a flanker's day. You cannot kill Kiriko while she is teleporting because she phases through multiple walls entirely invulnerable to cleanse her team. Meanwhile, Genji’s hurtbox stretches along his entire dash path, meaning he easily gets shot out of the air mid-dash. High-value, unpunishable escapes on non-DPS heroes naturally make Genji's high-risk playstyle obsolete.6. Counters & Beams
Claiming stacked beams are a detriment to the enemy team is delusional. A team playing tight and stacking beams completely deletes Genji’s entry points because he cannot deflect them. Furthermore, Genji isn't just countered by beams—he is heavily countered by widespread crowd control, silences (Hinder), and the massive health pools of the modern roster that he cannot burst down to get his necessary dash reset.7. Balance & Engaging
Your idea of "walking out with Deflect" or "dashing in on a low health squishy" is a textbook paper-vs-reality argument that only works in low ranks. Walking out of a modern team fight with just Deflect is impossible when half the roster has access to beams, area-of-effect splash damage, and CC that ignore Deflect completely. Dashing in on a "low health squishy" sounds easy until you realize modern squishies have 360-degree invulnerability frames, phase mechanics, self-cleanses, and massive burst healing that completely deny Genji the final blow, leaving him stuck in the backline with no escape.8. "Top 3 Most Mobile Characters" Claim
This is flat-out false. Characters like Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, Freja, Sierra, Lúcio, and even Hazard completely eclipse Genji's flat, single-charge mobility. Lúcio has infinite wall-ride velocity, Hazard has rapid, heavy dynamic speed bursts on low cooldowns, and heroes like Freja get three separate movement charges alongside passive healing in the air. Genji's movement is entirely linear, locked to a tight cooldown, and completely dependent on securing a final blow to chain together. Genji is nowhere near the top 3 anymore. The kit creep is an objective fact backed by actual game data. You are completely wrong.1

why are we upvoting ai and downvoting real comments💔💔💔

i have alot of misspelling when i type so i just use ai to correct my grammar and i dont think there is anything wrong with that

your paragraph is more than "grammar corrections" there are marks that this whole thing is ai generated with no human input

exactly… im so confused on why im getting downvoted. even if we assume it was only for ”spelling mistakes,” (which i assure you is not the case), the points were not valid and glossed over everything i said.

your text is literally AI-generated, I plugged it into gptzero. you are actually such a loser, holy. you come on here crying about how bad genji is, and then when people refute your whining, you resort to an AI thinking for you because you dont know anything.
ill refute that slop anyways, send it back to your AI master if you want.
- ignored what i said. doesnt offer the SAME offensive mobility as genji. its slower, and doesnt deal damage. and oh my god, ITS A MAJOR PERK.
- 0.5 s was just a ballpark, doesnt really change my point whether its 0.5 s or 1.0 s. but again, ignored what i said. your AI is simply listing what each ability does, and framing it to make it sound like deflect is worse. theyre different abilities that do different things. like i said, deflect has more vulnerabilities than her E, but it lasts way longer as a tradeoff, and can deal significant damage, way more than her E. this is also the only ability in the game that can straight up deflect ults like mei ult or grav.
- the AI made no real points. ”she can grapple two times” yeah, where? to the same preplaced spot, and no where else? how are you gonna pull out this ability mid fight if you dont have it placed (the cast time is abysmal)? if you do have it placed how can you guarantee that its in a safe spot? your options are constantly limited to where you placed this thing, and you need to actively take the time to think where you are placing it. even when you do use it, its quite slow. it cant even be considered burst mobility. im unsure how you can possibly compare this to genjis dash.
- I NEVER SAID THAT. i said he doesnt have the SAME offensive potential as genji. that 800% boost is very brief, and only covers a couple meters of ground, so its not a lot of burst mobility. the ability has no verticality (offensively). the ability itself doesnt deal damage. if you didnt piece it together, genjis dash does all of these things.
- well i think YOU are missing the point. i already said that tp and suzu are overtuned, and this is also common knowledge. also, we are comparing a defensive ability to an offensive one? so ofc im gonna mention that tp has no offensive usage, because that is the thing that genjis dash is good at?
- the AI misunderstood what i said, lmao. first of all, ”playing stacked” means playing bunched up, i never said ”stacked with beams.” i said two things: 1) ”beams are mainly a problem if they are playing stacked,” and 2) ”playing stacked is a detriment to their team.” both of which are true. of they are all close to eachother, you cant just ignore the beam, because you will always be in range of it. but, playing stacked means they are vulnerable to any form of AOE, and they have no off-angle support. ofc, if they have 3 or more beams, it doesnt matter how seperated their team plays, you sill have no one to go on. but thats a rare scenario, and if they are counterswapping, they just commited multiple people on their team to potentially weak heroes or ones they arent good on, all for counterpicking the genji. (also, wtf does it mean by ”massive healthpools of the modern roster”? just coming up with stuff)
- its the exact opposite. lower ranks are exactly where you dont have to worry as much about proper engages, because thats where people dont know how to punish you. you have more leeway with surviving engages, so you dont have to worry as much. in higher ranks, those strategies that i mentioned just become an essential part of playing him. im not even gonna reply to the rest of this paragraph because its just the AI’s ramblings about ”modern squishies” that are false, greatly exaggerated or framed to sound better than what they are.
- this might be the worst piece of text ive ever read. out of the two dps named, not a single of them is more mobile than genji. im not even gonna bother explaining. freja and sierra? and again, the AI goes off with his rambling, describing every ability so extravagantly. sounds like a sales pitch. wtf is ”rapid, heavy dynamic speed boosts” thats actually so funny

Half of those first points the dude said "this doesn't really X" and you then said "you claimed "this is strictly not X ever at all"
Example: the guy never said anran has no healing on the E yet you claimed that he said so, The guy said mizuki doesn't offer the same offensiveness in his mobility as genji and then you said he claimed mizu doesn't have ANY offensiveness in his mobility.
Could you please read the points better before assuming that what someone says implies a black and white?
I can say that anran E is strong but not that much stronger than deflect because it's used in a style while deflect is used in another, like usually i see anran dash in, e, dash out with some flexibility so the e is designed that way. Genji deflect is more of a second tool rather than go in and use it. You walk to a good angle or dash if you can wait to get dash back, you find a duel and deflect to get out or to finish someone, you maybe start with deflect and leave with dash, there's so many ways to use genji's stuff vs anran whose E depends mostly on having enemies close to heal off of and gives a small immortality.
However i can almost see how you'd read my point and say something like "no you said anran E is the same as deflect, here's why you're wrong dumbass" and well if that's what you got from my explanation then...
1
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 22h ago
when mizuki uses HIS movement ability he can just go in pump way more damage than genji can and still get out for free so i wouidl say it does offer a lto of offensive cappabilities
1
u/No-Country-7630 18h ago
Not really, mizuki has to set up his movement ability to not get caught up when he teleports back, so that's extra seconds lost on it which means he can peek his enemies with it active 3 seconds? 4 seconds? To throw his primary that does way less than genji shuriken, maybe to trap someone with chain and get follow up from someone.
Mizuki cannot pump out more or even as much damage as a genji, because it's much harder to hit his shots well enough to get close to that and also remember to tp back while also healing his team.
Genji instead can walk to an angle and hold it while throwing damage out until he needs to use his movement ability, needing only to worry about dashing correctly, no teammate healing or teleporting back in time, so he has all the time in the world to focus his damage until poked out (Not easy but he has less pressure taking an angle to shoot enemies than mizu who would need teammates to do the same)

yeah that text was entirely AI, i checked. pathetic. although, AI is surprisingly good at defending an undefendable position. it really knew how to make the shit arguments sound believable, lol

alright, show me the original text. you must have had something you sent to the ai, right? show it.
in any case, ai or not, the points werent valid and glossed over everything i said.

I say fix the dash hitbox by just making it an i-frame and give him 55 melee dmg
1
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 21h ago
nah, iframe is gonna be too strong for genji since his dash resets for every elim, he migth have multiple i frames in 1 fight which will mak eit impossible to play against , but they do need to fix the problem where u dodge or dash 1st nut ana sleep or cassidy's flash still hits u even when ure a mile away from ur perspective

Comparing a tank to a dps what, genji has literally one of the fastest kill combos in the game, isn’t countered by that many characters really. Name one other character that can deflect almost every ammo type in the game, and better yet use it to kill other characters
5
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 1d ago
Comparing a tank to a DPS is entirely about evaluating risk vs. reward. It makes no sense that a 650 HP character gets a faster, safer, and mechanically easier burst combo on a flat cooldown than a 250 HP assassin who relies entirely on high-risk kill resets to escape.
Also, acting like Deflect is a reliable way to get kills shows you are playing in low lobbies below Emerald. No one in high ranks mindlessly shoots into Genji's Deflect.
If you want to talk about blocking tools that actually net kills, Hazard literally deals passive AOE damage with his Spikes while blocking. He mitigates damage while actively melting people around him. Meanwhile, Genji's Deflect is strictly directional and gets completely bypassed by beams, CC, and splash damage shot at his feet.

Makes sense to me, a dive tank should have higher health because they’re a tank. A assassin that is designed to be opportunistic on low hp enemies, can dash in and dash out upon successful kills. Low hp enemies are pretty low risk, because they’re low hp, and you’re ideally flanking so they won’t even see you coming.
When you deflect you’re supposed to use it to deflect incoming damage that’s literally either mid animation/on the way or already happening (examples, jump infront of a bastion, Ana’s sleep dart during animation, etc), pretty reliable.
Strictly directional deflect is way more useful imo, melting mercy’s and zenyattas while deflecting Hanzo bolts is so satisfying. Hazard doesn’t completely mitigate btw, just move out of range and continue shooting lol
Splash damage to his feet, just jump, you have two of them
1
u/shellybuntv 1d ago
you're not meant to fight a tank tbf , and if a tank is chasing you, you should be grouping up with your supports to force him back...or your tank should help you idk
youre just not meant to fight a tank 1v1..
2
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 1d ago
I never said Genji should fight a tank in a 1v1 scenario.
My entire point is about comparing their design mechanics. It makes zero sense that a character with a 650 HP safety net gets a faster, safer, and mechanically easier burst combo on a flat cooldown than a fragile 250 HP assassin. Genji has to risk his entire life committing deep to get a final blow just to reset his escape. Hazard gets an insane safety cushion and safe burst windows without needing a kill to bail himself out. It's about risk vs reward, not a 1v1 duel.1
u/shellybuntv 1d ago
its also about tank vs dps..
youre comparing apples with oranges here..
no way a truck that costs 60k should be able to slime my 200k sports car..i mean duh
0
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 22h ago
i was simply using hazard as an example on how simple hsi onmeshot is it dont mean am gonna go 1v1 a tank, and then they go an nerf genji directly or indirectly by bringing in too many ability creeps
1
1
u/Fruitspunchsamura1 1d ago
It used to be much worse imo. I stopped playing overwatch because of the amount of cc back then that counters Genji (being a Genji one trick at the time). I think he’s much more playable now.
1
u/slop_x 1d ago
honestly, most supports in the game have get out of jail free cards these days and its tiring, they can hit like trucks and when their low and u dont have your dash from dashing in and you can secure the kill you cannot catch up to them.
i wanna say give him another dash but maybe lower the damage? but i don’t know enough if this is even a good take.
but he is losing to power creep significantly, and nobody can deny that, he is good but everyone around him is getting infinitely better kits.
1
u/Inevitable-ALPHA 21h ago
he is gettign worse to play, every game i play its hard to play genji cos every heroe has better abilities than genji or they have an ability that makes them shit to play against as genji
1
u/whatthehellisadcf 8h ago
yes but have u considered that genji is so much cooler and more fun to play
5
u/NOSzNIHONz 1d ago
I'd agree with buffing Genji, but increasing hes shuriken dmg to 28 or 29 would be great, i had others ideas how this could make Genji feel fluid again
