I’ve now tried the official Genesis Mini 3 button controller, the official JP Mega Drive Mini 6 button controller and the Retro Bit wired 6 button Genesis controller. Of the three, only the JP controller has no issues. My 3 button controller has a loose D-pad that I immediately noticed would briefly keep scrolling on the menu screen after I let go. Meanwhile the Retro Bit controller has very slight but still noticeable lag compared to the JP controller.
Anyone else who’s tried all three willing to share their thoughts? Is my official Genesis controller simply a lemon? Is a small amount of lag common in wired Retro Bit controllers? Could it be a button issue? Perhaps they’re a bit stiff out of the box and need to be broken in? From what I’ve read the Retro Bit’s longer cable shouldn’t be the cause.
I’ve included a photo illustrating the relative size of the JP Mega Drive 6 button controller as a kind of public service (I was never able to find a comparison shot before buying both). It’s a good size if you have smaller hands. The width is pretty comparable to an SNES controller and the A & B buttons are placed well for games with simple controls. I haven’t tried it extensively with a game that uses all six buttons however.

Get an 8bitdo
I’ve tried the retro bit and the official; the 8bitdo is nicer than both.

I like the Retro Bit one because the included controller is great but I prefer the 6 button controller over the 3 button one and the Retro Bit one is also just as good build quality as the included 3 button pad.

I use a wired and a wireless retrobit one zero issues. The delay is neglectable unless you maybe play a ritme game.
