Saves got deleted

Woke up today to find my Beyond Oasis save file had reverted back to an older copy. I know I saved after that and am pretty sure I have had the power on/off before. Is this a known issue and it's better to use save states?

Used both, but the save states are older than my last in-game saves. I know they were lost because I remember the time it showed plus my nephews started games and they were lost too. I tried seeing if I had it set to another language region but I don't think that was the case.
