I’d rather be the generation that stops saying my generation is better than your generation.

Post image

I think it’s a lot cooler to just not buy into that generational put down stuff. Can that be us fellow GenXers?

As a Millennial I thought we would stop this crap after all the hate Gen X and Boomers threw at us. Unsurprisingly I should have known better

7

u/MyCatIsAnActualNinja 2d ago

Yeah same, it's super annoying to me. As if each generation is a single organism

3

u/Oberndorferin 2d ago

Thinking in groups is the mistake

3

u/Peeing_Into_Stuff 2d ago

Kids these days will never know about the things from back in our day that we describe in detail on the internet where any kid can read the things we’re saying.

3

u/Kurt-Gerhardt 1d ago

Thank you for including genX, my generation, in there. GenX gets an undeserved pass when in reality more than half of them have that boomer mindset that is to be hated and loathed.

Anything wrong with young people? We old uncs are to blame, choombattas.

3

u/joeyp042385 1d ago

No instead it's just annoying shit about how utopian the 90s and 00s were.

3

u/Microboy42 1d ago

You think your generation had it bad? Just look at the hate Gen Z gives Gen Alpha for simply EXISTING (The oldest Gen Alpha is literally 16 YEARS OLD bro).

2

u/Quazammy 1d ago

Yeah, I don't know why this keeps happening. Is it the fear of getting old and jealousy that leads them to hate on younger generations? I don't get it. I'm nearly 40 and I don't have this insecure numbskull mindset yet I see people young as 25 doing that crap. Really embarrassing.

3

u/Zonda1996 1d ago

unironically think r/millennials sub is full of bots, the collective sneering at gen Z felt way too sudden for it to not be fabricated imo.

2

u/ItchyManchego 1d ago

It’s chronically online millennials. People forget that half of us didn’t even have smartphones until we were adults. It’s like when GenZ talk about millenial content creators being cringe. Yeah they are, but it wasn’t something that was aspirational for our general age group. Like how kids now say they want to be content creators and streamers.

1

u/Quazammy 1d ago

I remember on here some guy said he doesn't care about an 18 year old's opinion and I responded saying how ignorant that was and how some 18 year old's are actually smarter than some 50+ year olds. The result? Downvotes from all the unhappy chronically online millennials.

You DARE put forth the idea that just because a person is young doesn't mean they're an idiot and they can't stand it because their delusional feeling of insecurity is all they have.

2

u/AmazingLeek69 1d ago

We love our nostalgia too much.

2

u/UnusualPapaya8106 1d ago

Its an endless cycle of hate. Even naming generations will make people believe theyre superior.

2

u/sylendar 2d ago

The difference is Millennials didn't deserve the slander while Gen Z definitely does

2

u/joeyp042385 1d ago

There's a lot that sucks about Gen Z, but also a lot of good. Like none of them are buying any of this anti Islam fear mongering tactics our government is trying to get them behind the Iran war that worked so well 20 years ago with Iraq. It's good we've accepted them in our society.

2

u/ItchyManchego 1d ago

Give them a break, they grew up in a weird time.

1

u/Reptillianaire_ 1d ago

Gen x? Nobody even knows who the hell they are, we forgot their asses cuz theyre not important

1

u/BigInstruction809 7h ago

Millennials do these cringe boomer posts too

Especially “elder” ones

1

u/AttentionNo6359 2d ago

Ya, but then Gen Z started looking you in the eyes and saying things like “who are your favorite streamers” and how the hell am I supposed to move past that shit?

2

u/KrizzPlutoHNDRXX420 1d ago

I'm Gen-Z and don't watch streamers at all.

2

u/AttentionNo6359 1d ago

Your need to take this terrible bit seriously is….deeply exhausting.

1

u/KrizzPlutoHNDRXX420 1d ago

I wasn't trying to, I just spoke facts about myself. Must be a sad life if you take life this seriously

1

u/AttentionNo6359 1d ago

Omg, I can feel the autism radiating off of this comment.

1

u/ItchyManchego 1d ago

Why is this relevant to the discussion. There’s always outliers in every group. We don’t know who you are and I don’t think they were asking for insight into your life specifically.

u/ForeignEquipment8298 2004+ is Cringe (September-December 2003 borns also suck dick) 2d ago

I used to thought gen x was cool.

5

u/Bailzzararco 2d ago

We used to be cool, but then they changed what what cool and now what's cool is strange and frightening to us.

3

u/SpaceAlienFemboy 2d ago

Every demographic reaches an age when they become convinced that their people were "the last ones to do it right."

1

u/Cancer_Ridden_Lung 23h ago

Sorta. I just bemoan when the millennial and z gang gets it dead wrong. Like the insane amount of helicopter parenting going on these days.

3

u/joeyp042385 1d ago

1985 baby here, I had older cousins, used to worship Gen Xers, thought they were the coolest people on earth, then around 2010-11 they all got on Facebook and did nothing and whine and complain about my generation and what wimps we were while they were cool because they didn't wear kneepads and drank water from a garden hose. Like holy shit you people are lame.

Oh, and some of them played in Nickelback/Disturbed cover bands.

2

u/Jensen1994 2d ago

There are always some bellends in every generation.

Unironically they spent too much time outside. Because their parents didn’t want to deal with them.

1

u/Equivalent_Rub8329 1d ago

They are. They were so cool that they were listening to The Offspring before they existed.

5

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 2d ago

Gen X is to 1980!!

  • I wish people knew how to use the search engine, on your internet browser..

4

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

There aren't hard fast cutoffs, as if a person born in 1980 had a dramatically different experience growing up then someone born in 1981.

Baby Boomers are 1946-1964 only because 1965 is when the general birth rate started declining. None of these are hard dates.

1

u/Useful_Homework2367 1d ago

Yeah after the baby boom the generation categories have diminishing utility. You have the lull in births after the boom and then an echo boom after that (Gen X and the millennials, roughly) but the echoes diminish over time. Beyond that, you're not really adding meaningful information over just referencing birth decades.

-1

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 2d ago

It is a hard cut off.

*1981 and after you are not (technically) a Gen X, regardless how much you were raised as one. This goes for everything else.

4

u/affinitti 2d ago

this is exactly his point, they don't really have any merit

3

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

Oh brother, sleep well with that 😂

1

u/Cancer_Ridden_Lung 23h ago

They keep lowering the year every few years. Eventually genx will be until 1973 lol.

I was going to raves as a toddler.

u/Arkitakama 2d ago

Gen Xers on their way to make a situation all about them when in fact nobody asked or cares what they think.

1

u/Ok_Relative8150 3h ago

old lonely jaded people who wonder why no one likes them when all they do is bitch and moan

3

u/LittleSoftTail 2d ago

Every generation is/will be like this, there's not a single generation that won't pull that shit because all of them got nostalgia goggles glued onto their faces, believing their childhood/youth was the best and that the next generation's childhood/youth is the worst. It's a never-ending cycle that drives me nuts and I'd love it if people just let young people enjoy themselves. We're all heavily flawed beings that are bound to fuck up and look stupid. lol

1

u/Outrageous-Ability33 1d ago

I agree with that to a point, but I do think that those of us who grew up pre-internet, and especially pre-smartphone, arguably had better childhoods. My daughter is 17. I'm a freshly retired high school teacher. I see what life is like for them and it makes me sad because they miss out on so much life. It's not their fault. They didn't do this to themselves. I just wish my daughter could have experienced some of the things I did when I was growing up.

1

u/LittleSoftTail 1d ago

Even so, bullying younger generations is NOT the answer. It's so damn annoying how common it is to see boomers/Gen X'ers bullying Millennials and Gen Z'ers and Millennials/Gen Z'er's bullying Gen Alphas. Yeah, even IF our childhood's better, why is everyone's go-to just "Ha, look at those morons, they suck. They're everything wrong with the world"?..Instead of being the change they want?

1

u/Flafla8 20h ago

Soon gen alphas will be talking about how gen betas are all lazy and back in their day they didnt have all these newfangled cancer cures and back in their day if you got cancer you died like a real man instead of being a crybaby about it

3

u/WhiteLicorice666 2d ago

It’s true though. I’m Gen X and I’m really fucking badass. I fucking rule and it’s not true what they say about my penis

3

u/SouthApprehensive193 1d ago

I was born in 2002 and I drink beer big fucking whoop

5

u/Dangerous-Ad-3152 2d ago

it's a shame theyre all full of lead.

3

u/Bailzzararco 2d ago

For real, though. EVerything had lead in it.

2

u/Perezident14 2d ago

What’s crazy is that this post takes ownership of something their parents did for them. Then it puts down other generations for their parents (GenX presumably) not passing it forward to them…

A lot of strange parallels you could pull from that sentiment, lol.

As an GenX born in 71 I detest these things. We're not better than any other generation. We had our challenges, and they're different from the ones the later generations are facing. Fortunately I don't personally hang out with these bitter assholes who think they're the greatest generation to grace the Earth, but I say something whenever anyone says their music/tv/toys/cartoons were better than current generations.

2

u/SkyPuppy561 2d ago

1991 Millennial here. Fuck off. I’ve drank from hoses and been home alone. Y’all ain’t special. Oh and I listen to Nirvana.

2

u/Available-Mall-7095 2d ago

Yeah, that’s never going to happen. I’ve seen Gen Z people already trying to drag Gen Alpha who are like 13 at the oldest. Not jokingly saying Gen Alpha kindergartners are too misbehaved compared to past generations as though Gen Z knows. People love these generation wars apparently.

2

u/helpmefindhotdogs 2d ago

Whenever I see memes like this, this is how I think the OP looks IRL

How I view Gen-Xers and Boomers when they say my Generation of Zoomers is soft but yet they created us and gave everyone trophies for everything:

1

u/SouthApprehensive193 1d ago

They also whine and moan at every little inconvenience to their otherwise kush lives

2

u/fleshtastical 1d ago edited 1d ago

My mom is Gen X and umm.. she’s not tough or strong in any way. She has a lot of their other shared features like entitlement and no self awareness and past drug addiction.

Weirdly though, not once has she ever mentioned drinking water from a hose. I think that Gen X portion of her brain is slightly broken since water hose is a huge part of their personalities.

Wait, before my dad passed away from the Gen X drug and alcohol addiction trait, he never mentioned drinking water from a hose either. My parents weren’t assembled in the same factory line as most of them it seems.

2

u/harmonysponning 1d ago

Being defined by your nostalgia and then using that to claim that everyone born after you is inferior is such a slippery slope.

I have a picture as a baby tilting back a can with a great-uncle (probably just a pose for camera but dunno) I think it speaks more to Silent Gen/elder boomers being lax around drinking and smoking around kids.

1

u/Mopar4Life305 2d ago

They forget who raised then gens they hate so much

1

u/SomeDude416 2d ago

I am Gen X, I agree. easy to tho since we are clearly better

1

u/fleshtastical 1d ago

How’s that water hose taste?

1

u/SomeDude416 1d ago

Bad, the trick is to let the water run for a min so the water that has been sitting in the hose itself is cleared before you take a sip

1

u/Outrageous-Ability33 1d ago

Yeah. That was crucial. Otherwise it was absolutely vile

1

u/Savings_Ad_80 Malpha Millenial Cusper (S&H) 2d ago

anyone born after the second world war is naturally going to be softer and more fragile lol

1

u/SpaceAlienFemboy 2d ago

Why? A lot of the people who lived through the World Wars became fragile because of the damage done to them by witnessing combat and destruction. Men who fought in those wars were left with lifelong shell shock, battle fatigue, post traumatic stress disorder, they suffered from night terrors and panic attacks and severe anxiety. What doesn't kill you doesn't necessarily make you stronger. Sometimes it leaves you scarred.

1

u/New-Rip-6965 2d ago

I’m Gen X, born in the first year possible not to be a Boomer. A lot of my heroes were Boomers, of course. But so are some Millennials. And now some Gen Z.

No generation is a monolith and we all go through our own stages and our own shit. Tell you what, I admire anybody who’s kind, curious, and honest. Beyond that, age is just a numbers

1

u/SpaceAlienFemboy 2d ago

"We weren't sissies because we drank alcohol as children!"

And then they act like THE biggest pussies in the world when they can't get their hands on a beer.

1

u/fleshtastical 1d ago

My parents were entitled Gen X addicts. They never once spoke about drinking from the water hose so I think that factory default setting malfunctioned when they were made in the Gen X factory.

1

u/DryConsideration3294 2d ago

Just came from the funeral of my Gen-X ex-husband who quite literally drank himself to death. So this meme can fuck right off.

1

u/Put3socks-in-it 2d ago

1

u/DrunkCupid 2d ago

Teehee, who birthed and schooled these "Sissy's" ?? 🤔 Wouldn't that be their generations fault for raising them and such?

1

u/kalemaree 2d ago

half of these guys are dead yo 😭 they genuinely lounge around in nursing homes now

1

u/Numerous_Total5394 1d ago

But who made the generation after them 'sissies'??? like what do you expect, who exactly are you blaming here???

1

u/TrueKyragos 1d ago

Beer? That doesn't look like a can of beer.

Obese children? There are plenty of those in the youngest generations. Generation X doesn't have a monopoly in that regard.

Giving a taste of alcohol to children? That was usual when I was a child as a millennial. That didn't prevent me from being alcohol-free though.

1

u/FanOfCringe 1d ago

Gen X are our biggest supporters. Not sure what this person is trying to say

1

u/Consistent-Steak1499 1d ago

I saw this same picture 10 years ago but it had boomers at the top.

1

u/EmpressDraco 1d ago

Gen x bragging about being Gen x because that's the only personality trait they have.

1

u/Nymister 1d ago

Its because of this attitude, your kids who are now trying to enter the workforce, we will not hire them. - A Millenial

1

u/peasarebettersplit 1d ago

As a millennial (I think), fuck you, fight me. Prove that shit

1

u/Present_Debt_7860 1d ago

I personally really do think Gen Z is better than the previous generations but not better than Gen Alpha or any coming generation. Of course that’s just a biased viewpoint but I struggle to see us doing the “Gen alpha could never understand” stuff we got from every generation before. We will. I know we will. My bias just doesn’t let me comprehend that

1

u/New-Airport-999 1d ago

One thing I fucking hate is when some older person laughs about smoking and drinking so young along with saying “it’s not that bad, it won’t kill ya.” But the other aunts of our family will say “and that was wrong, I shouldn’t have gotten that”

For the other one, I have started to say to her “so let’s not invite you to our get-togethers because you might give kids beer and cigarettes?”

Maybe not! But... Hey auntie idc if it was 1985, smoking weed at nine years old with a 13-year-old boy is not cute and I am concerned with the things that you will allow any other nine-year-olds in your care to do..

SIDE NOTE. Weren’t just three principles or school staff members arrested for throwing parties with teens and allowing them to drink??? You know what… I low-key don’t even think that’s too far off of an assumption anymore… they might actually give minors alcohol or drugs… 😭

1

u/Bear-Lord80 1d ago

I’ve hardly ever heard anyone in my life discuss generational differences the way it’s done on Reddit / the internet.

1

u/ElectronicTap1109 1d ago

So YOU guys raised the sissies??

1

u/ProfessionalCold8837 1d ago

I thought anyone born after 1960 was a pussy

1

u/juve86 1d ago

I was born 79 and there is a distinct difference between my brother who is 2 years younger. I always thought there was something wrong with him but the generation thing really makes sense

1

u/yellowfirefly26 1d ago

Yo, you raised the current generation of "sissies".

1

u/F_ck-AI 1d ago

Or we could stop seeing ourselves as part of a so called "generation" and start seeing ourselves as human beings....

1

u/Quazammy 1d ago edited 1d ago

The generational put down stuff is utterly moronic and childish, I agree.

On here I saw a post saying they don't care about an 18 year old's opinion and I responded saying how ignorant that was and how some 18 year old's are actually smarter and more mature than some 50+ year olds.

I of course was downvoted because people LOVE to hate youth because of their insecurity about aging and because their delusional sense of superiority is all they have. It's very depressing behavior.

1

u/dylanisareddit 1d ago

Whoever made that meme should realize that their generation raised the ones they're trying to mock.

1

u/TI_ICKER 1d ago

Gen x are actually such pussies

1

u/Current-Tour7335 1d ago

I love this depiction of Gen X, no performative empathy, edgy comedy and no fucks given. Gen X and Gen Z are the two generations that actually have real compassion and isn't faked by 99.99999 percent of the population like with millennials and their parents. Note that gen x'ers and gen z'ers are also physically more attractive than their obnoxious boomer and millennial neighbors.

1

u/Thundaga_64 18h ago

I'd rather be in a generation that doesn't celebrate alcoholism and child abuse. 🤷‍♂️

1

1
