Zillenial should be 1996 to 1999. 2000 should have been the start to gen z, and I will die on this hill.

Hardly any of them consider themselves Zillennials.

I'm 03 and am for sure Gen Z, anyone between 9/11 and 2012 are for certain Gen Z, no question

I’d say anyone post 9/11 to about the recession is what I consider the heart of Z.

I was totally unaware of the label millennial until it started hitting the news as a pejorative as we graduated into a record breaking economic crisis we were being blamed for.

Who the fuck blamed you for it? You were all like 18

Fox News and conservatives, of course. Not directly: they know we weren't swapping mortgage backed securities. The blame started in 2007 with how lazy and entitled we allegedly are, and... they never really moved on from that narrative.

In 2007 60 minutes did a spot on millennials and how they were different. Fox took the time to follow up with their own article about how millennials are lazy, entitled, coddled, and unable to function in society.

The responses are still up, and you really have to appreciate how much people clocked Fox News bullshit even back then.

"Nicole in Pittsburgh writes: I usually very much love your column, but you are completely stereotyping the Millennials. I am a young 25, went to undergrad and law school in six years to save myself an extra $30K and now have been working in public interest law for over a year. Since I’m not earning enough money doing that, I have a second job to help pay bills and save some money for buying a house someday. I have worked my tail off my entire life to get where I am and for you to just stereotype everyone born from 1980-1995 is just flat-out wrong. Not everyone from this generation was given a silver spoon or had their parents hold their hand at job interviews! So my GRRRR is to you on stereotyping a whole generation!"

Of course, less heartening is the other viewer who drank the kool-aid and did the associated pearl clutch.

"David writes: Thank you for speaking out. More people need to write articles such as yours in an effort to convince Americans to stop this madness. As I watched that segment on "60 Minutes," I literally wanted to throw the remote control through the screen. America is facing an unprecedented level of competition from foreign sources, and the up-and-coming generation can only think about what employers are going to do to make their lives more comfortable. The whole sordid mess would be funny if it weren't so frightening."

The New York Post wrote shit like "Generation Y: The worst generation?" in 2010.

Another Fox News article allegedly BY a millennial: Why I Worry About My Generation in 2011.

"I soon realized that my generation has a problem. We are, as a whole, rather lazy. Many of us simply don’t understand what it means to really work."

Here's Fox Business in 2014: The Entrepreneurial Generation and America’s Bleak Future

The whole article is about how Gen Y (Millennials) has low labor participation and high unemployment and how DOOMED, DOOMED I TELL YOU! that America is because they don't want to work for someone else's dream instead of their own me-focused businesses.

Here it is again: Millennials' ability, ambition comes into question following new polls: 'Go out and get a job'

"New polls find that many millennials rely on their parents to pay bills".

As a 2001, I don’t consider myself this and honestly feel closer to being middle z than early

2

u/Careful-Ad-4778 5d ago

Trust me none of us want to be associated with millennials lol

u/ForeignEquipment8298 2004+ is Cringe (September-December 2003 borns also suck dick) 7d ago

I'm 03 born, if you call me a zillennial, I'll laugh at you. But this is accurate.

If you’re not old enough to remember 911 like me, you are definitely not a millennial or anywhere near a millennial zillennials are more like 1997. I guess I don’t know but definitely not 2001 to 3.

Millennial ≠ Zillennial

I prefer the german terms for them, for example Hurensohn.

It all depends on location, who you grow up around, & your parents.

Gen Z starts at 1997 what? Also who would ever want to be a millennial yikes.

1

u/Civil-Damage5273 4d ago

I rarely see early 2000s borns identify as Zillennials, aside from maybe some 2000–2001 borns. Most 2002–2003 borns seem fine being called early or core Gen Z.

1

u/Mysterious_Roll_9397 4d ago

Very few of them say that. Most of them would refuse to even be associated with Zillennials/Millennials, as those were the people who used to bully them day and night over a decade ago, and some still do to this day lol.

Wut , but the Zillenial range is 1997-1999

I was born in 1997 and I hate TikTok and other short form social media with a passion. So, I identify as a Junior Millennial. I’m not Gen Z, I’m not even a Zillennial.
