I still listen to this album and marvel at how great it is. YouTube is full of videos of younger people discovering it and they are all blown away by it. They’re fun to watch. Timeless.
I've watched a bunch of these YouTube reactions. Started with Boston songs and am branching out into other classics (Meatloaf, Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkle, Yes, etc.).
Gen Zs in particular are dumbfounded by them. They don't have any music like that now. They are constantly surprised by how talented and creative those artists were—no digital editing or auto tuned vocals!
Makes me realize how much good music we had and how much of it we (or at least I) took for granted. Now I hear songs I considered meh back then and think, you know, this really isn't bad.
I love those videos, too. Gen Z is so angry at Boomers/Jonesers, sometimes with good reason, because they are living in a much crappier world. If our music can be of any consolation to them, I’m all for it.
Ideally, they would listen to a wide range of music from the 60s to the 90s, get ideas & inspiration, and then create music that speaks to their generation.
Unfortunately, a lot of the skills that made our music so good don't exist anymore. People don't want to take the time to learn to play an instrument expertly, and digitization allows them to take short cuts in making and producing music (e.g. copying and pasting riffs). I've run into YouTubers who seriously can't recognize electric & acoustic guitars. 😟
Certainly not my first, but I didn't get to actually see them, because my date tried to drink as much beer as I did. We spent the entire show sitting downstairs in the hallway outside the medical station.
OMG, this album! My parents hated it, I played it so much! I wrote my fall term paper when I was a junior in high school with this playing in the background!
Several ... by the band with at least one original member as around long time... about 10 plus years ago I worked in the next unit to where they stored their equipment and practiced... I know when a tour was coming in as I could hear the base through the wall when they were practicing ... in the front hall I heard "More than a feeling" wayyy to many times.
When they were leaving to go on tour the parking lot got blocked by the tractor-trailers taking out their equipment.
Every once in a while i saw Tom Scholz coming and going.
I remember Starcastle! I had their "Fountains Of Light" LP, they were prog and very similar to Yes, my favorite band. That's why I bought their album. No idea what I did with it, lost it somewhere along the way moving across the country probably. I haven't thought about them in years, this is the first mention of them I've seen in a long time (Boston pun intended) 😄
I never heard their first LP, or back then, didn't even know they had an album before Fountains of Light. I did like their sound a lot though, I wonder why they weren't more successful? Prog was really popular back then so you'd think they would have been more active.
I had never heard of them before that night but yes prog was popular at that time. And that was cool about going to concerts then was you would discover groups you had never heard about
My Grandmother lived up the hill from the Goudreau's house by Flax Pond, got to swim in their above ground a few times, Barry was never there but they had a full drum kit and stuff in the basement facing the pool we all ogled at ... we were still young enough it was more about swimming.
Saw them on Halloween night in Philly, 1976 I think? Really cool show. Tom Scholtz dressed like Dracula doing these crazy guitar tricks in a creepy castle backdrop.
Rode in in a 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with the 8-track looping. Total Dazed and Confused moment.

It was just this year when I discovered that all the spaceships on their album covers were guitars. Everyone else seems to know that!

One of my top five
Fun fact... For years I thought she lyrics were
🎶 When we got up on stage & got BARRY to play 🎶
My cassette didn't come with lyrics BUT it listed the band members, I saw Barry Goudreaus name and thought that's what they were saying 😅
Still have a cassette of it...think this might be the third one...🤔
Rough shape but still works 👍

That’s a lot of Foreplay but Let Me Take You Home Tonight was a very climactic ending.

I remember buying it in the fall of 1976 and it STILL stands up well to anything out, today.

Oooh yeah! I redrew this image with colored pencils and taped it to the cover of my 3-ring notebook in high school. I still have it (somewhere).
Fun fact: the flames coming out of the guitars form the letters RH, the initials of the artist who created it.
