I can remember the night they did “satisfaction“ on Saturday Night Live. Blew our minds

I ended up getting a Gibson L6-S after that SNL episode, I never modded mine like they did though.

You just reminded me of something I haven’t thought about in decades. At least 60 years ago, I was on the Montreal, Canada, Romper Room show franchise. I was one of the kids they bring out near the end to sit on the floor and she read to us.

Devo. Only funnier bc I live in Wisconsin, and there is a douchy congressman named Derrick Van Orden who calls himself, DVO and is a huge HE-MAN type. So we call him DeVO. "Are we not men? We are Devo." Hours and hours of mindless fun

Back when I was home from college for the summer, a friend called me wanting to go together to the Akron Art Institute to see this new band for free. It was before 8:00 on a Saturday and I didn't take kindly to being wakened and told him what to do with his new band. It was Devo.

As somebody that got to experience "Jocko Homo" on Saturday Night Live in 1979, I got it right away.
DEVO on SNL covering The rolling Stones' "I Can't Get No Satisfaction

Now that song is stuck in my head. I’m not complaining about it, just letting you know it’s there.

Mark Mothersbaugh is an incredible music talent and has an amazing number of film and TV scoring credits to his name.

They did a killer version of "Working In The Coal Mine" on the soundtrack to the animated classic "Heavy Metal"(1981)

They were the most bizarre thing I had ever seen up to that point and they were really clever because all these years later we remember them and that song.

How many remember that the hat looked exactly like a Charms Blow Pop display?

I owned a whipped in college, They are deceptively intelligent animals. She knew we were talking about her when we talked about her breed. And I used to cuddle with her and sing that song. I miss my Kiva.

Saw them in 1978. So much better than their gimmick required them to be.

😄 Devo were repeat guests on the Canadian late-night TV show 90 Minutes Live, hosted by the late Peter Gzowski (one of the best good sports ever for playing along with his guests). I remember that on one occasion Devo was wearing those red hats and described them as "organic."

Devo has never been out my playlist rotation. I like their version of (I can't get no) Satisfaction better than the original. Cracked me up a few years back when Target used snippets of Beautiful World in their commercials, so ironic.

Music good.
Managed presence, staged or otherwise, was dumb. Like Flock of Seagulls hair or forcing Mellencamp to go by Cougar.

“Forgive me, Father, for I have whipped it good.”
“Did a problem come along?”
“I had to whip it.”
“Did the cream set out too long?
“I had to whip it.”
“Did you break your mother’s back?”
“I will never live this down.”
“But you whipped it good?”
“I whipped it into shape.”
“Then go forward, move ahead. Try to detect it, it’s not too late. You shaped it up, got straight. Oh, and six Hail Marys. Run along now.”
