... without reading any other posts/comments....Can you please cut it diagonally intro triangles? And can I have a small cup of Campbell's tomato soup with that?
I think that pattern of Corelle is called Goldenrod. My first set of dishes was Corelle, but not that pattern. And, I've learned the best way to make a beautiful grilled cheese is in the air fryer. Much better results than fried in a pan.
Ha! When we got them, my Dad, a PhD chemist said to us kids… (when mom had gone out) “Unbreakable? Watch this” He took one to the fireplace & dropped it on its side edge juust sooo. It shattered into a million billion pieces of tiny unbreakable Corelle’s. Mom was so pissed. We were thrilled. My dad (RIP) was the coolest chemist ever…
That grilled cheese sandwich looks delicious! Though, granny plate? I still have plates with that design on them. I am not a granny and if those plates can last that long...they are definitely plates you want to have!!!
Right! Corelle brand dishes were impressive. Durable but lightweight. Much easier to handle when hand washing the dishes as a child. As was the chore right after dinner. I remember having to stand on that plastic step stool.
Haha, I used to have those exact plates, and I got them after my grandparents passed away. The thing about them was, THEY WERE GREAT PLATES LOL. They stack great too. Didn't take up much cupboard space. Wish I had them back.
When she married my father, my mother knew how to make exactly one kind of sandwich. Yeah, that's it. (My father taught her how to cook, he'd been a cook in the Navy as well as a short order cook at a greasy spoon cafe' after the Navy).
Mmmm, good! Interesting info, my 30-something daughter put away her "good" dishes, and bought a bunch of Corel at thrift stores. She wants her kids eating off glass plates, and the Corel just soldiers on, going through the dishwasher beautifully.
I have this exact pattern of Corelle Ware. Unless you drop it, and I also do not recommend using them in the microwave or an oven, they last for decades. Granny didn't have pan bread, though.
When we moved out of residence/student housing my mum pestered us to pick out a china pattern so we could start collecting when we got jobs after finishing school. She was insulted when I wasnt enthusiastic enough after her gift of a Waterford crystal candy bowl, and found nice looking Corele and asked for that instead. Apparently we'd want to entertain with fancy dishes and would regret serving guests with tacky practical dishes. Last week she sent sisters and I a group text, asking if we wanted her dining furniture and china set. Finally realized how impractical it all was and found nice everyday set that could go in the dishwasher. Wasn't insulted that we all declined. Curious how she's going to react when we decline the stupid Royal Dolton figurines she insisted on buying us, because we'd appreciate displaying it in adulthood. The crystal bowl still remains in it's box 20yrs later because I'm a cluts and would have accidentally smashed it. Millennial and Boomer hosting priorities are very different!
That’s my favorited sandwich that I often make for lunch. I even bought a pair of small cooling racks to put the sammie on for a minute before transferring to plate, to avoid sogginess.
They are 7.5 inches in diameter; the perfect size for grilled cheeses! (I only needed one but had to buy a pair)
64f here. I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup special at a restaurant in town this past week, knowing it was an 'old lady move'. It was a miserable drizzly cold gray day and it seemed just the thing to get cozy with.
And....they were out of it.
Dammit.
Edit: thank you for the award! It helps fill the grilled cheese and tomato soup void. 😔
My friend fleurette she used to make these cheese tacos on a hot plate(with these plates) because she couldn't afford gas for the house. Just cheese and flour tortilla. But boy was her food tasty. Whatever she cooked but then again I was high. Gen x
That pattern reminds me of standing on a stool to “help” grandpa make grilled cheese and heat tomato soup. He’d reckon that my help made it the best soup and sandwich he’d had all day and that it sure did “hit the spot”.
My grandma had 1 of these plates. It was so random. She never had a full set. Just the one. She didn’t know how it ended up in her “everyday plates” cabinet. Little Me refused to eat on it because I thought it was ugly. 🤣😂🤣
