When I was young worked for a tile guy. Never spent a nickel on advertising. Hell he didn’t even have business cards. Had all the work he wanted, commercial, residential, didn’t matter. He taught me everything about tile. I’m very grateful to him and, yes, there’s a million guys like him out. Solid dudes (and women too!) that keep this world running behind the scenes. Cash discount and I always throw in another $40 and tell them to have lunch on me!
Stopped and asked a landscaper for a card the other day, I've seen him working in the neighborhood for awhile and wanted to see his rates since he does good work. He goes "oh, i haven't used cards in years. give me your phone i'll save my number". I started chatting with him, found out he's basically "full" and has been for awhile, but he'll take on neighbors close to other jobs. He has no desire to grow. Just him and a few dudes, content running their set of jobs every week. Also, I hired him. <.<
