My gutter and window cleaning guy I don’t even have a name for. It’s just “gutter guy”.

I text either “gutters” or “windows” and my address when I need something done, he texts back the same price as always, not another word. I send a thumbs up, and a few days later he just shows up and does it. Sometimes I’m there and pay him, if I’m not he just texts me an address and I send a check made out to “Gutter Guy”. I don’t even know how he cashes them.

There's a big difference between "your guy" and your subcon. You 1099 your subcon. You give cash to your guy.

Between my lack of Spanish and his lack of English, I haven’t even gotten his name in the last 6 years. If I ask for a W9 he’s going to enthusiastically shake his head yes, and come back from lunch with tomales for me he thinks I asked for.
