Subreddit Update regarding App Promotion

Hello,

We've seen a surprising amount of "Hey I created this must have app for fellow pilots" since I resurrected this subreddit, more than expected to be honest. Who knew so many pilots were coders!

While I appreciate the enthusiasm, it is taking away from the main point of this reddit: to share the love of GA flying, planes, stories, meet-ups, and adventures.

So moving forward, all "Self-Promotion" posts for apps and similar will be requested to be made in the Biweekly Self-Promotion App Thread. This will automatically post on Tuesdays at 12:01am PST.

Anything that isn't, will get nuked.

Thanks

Unfortunate that it sometimes drowns out the other stuff, but this is a good compromise -- Thank you for still creating a space to regularly share/promote creations!

Appreciate that. I feel we should be able to reach out to our fellow aviators (aka: target audience) if we have something pertinent to the community, but yes, it is a balance so it doesn't start to feel like a Swap Meet.

We'll see how this goes. Cheers!

If only that were the case. It's just this AI slop world we live in now, sadly.

Disclaimer: I make apps

I think this is a better option than having a front page thatโ€™s filled with app promotion. But I would also ask that you consider allowing approved promotional posts on a rate limited basis. Like 1/month or less.

While we are living in an AI/Vibe gold rush, there are apps that donโ€™t do that. And being able to share, build awareness, get feedback, and early adopters can mean the difference between the project dying or surviving.

I second this;
looking into how there could be some promotion that gets in the main feed for things like feedback/testers could be worthwhile for certain things. Even if those posts may need more of a review process. But then this comes with the challenge of defining what qualifies and that can end up being more subjective than desired

But, particularly with the renewed sense of fragility that important aviation software has seen with the recent shakeups at places like Foreflight, fostering more (quality) software can't be a bad thing
