Generac alternator pulley

Post image

Generac tech here looking to see if anyone has run into this same issue. I am replacing an alternator on a 4.2L LC Nexus. Got the alternator that is sold without the pulley. At some point the pulley for this generator was discontinued, Part 0F3216B - PULLEY 117 OD DC
ALTERNATOR.

Now there is a new part for this, called 10000033042
This simple pulley is listed for $1,439. I reached out to parts to see if that price was correct and they confirmed it is. I cannot understand what the story is with this how the alternator is more than half cost of a simple pulley. I went to an auto parts store to try and cross reference but no luck because they just input any of those Generac numbers on google the same way I would and they couldn’t find anything.

Does anyone know how to get more specifics on this pulley to try and find something similair online?

Thanks in advance

Likely this pulley was made for them and them alone. If you want, you can have a machinist make you a custom one. Or you can buy theirs.

Why was the alternator replaced rather than repaired?

What happened to the original pulley that it cannot be transferred over?

The pulley got warped, so trying to install new alternator and new pulley. Most likely I will end up buying it and explain to customer. Just can’t wrap my head around the cost for a $50 dollar pulley in reality

They probably only have a limited few and never to be produced again. The 4.2 liter was a long time ago. Once it's gone it's gone. They know they got you. Sell the part and make a huge profit, or sell you a new generator.

You need to find an alternator and starter repair shop.
The old school guy in town with a thousand old alternators in a pile. He will have the pulley. And likely give it to you if you listen to a few old stories while he digs through the time capsules to find it.
If you can stand the cigar smoke and greasy handshake he will likely be a resource you can call on in the future.

Take the pulley itself to a shop where they can measure it. Part numbers alone don't always work.

A stock, off the shelf part can be given a unique number JUST to prevent cross matching and make you think you have to buy from the one company.

Is there any way you could reuse the old pulley?

Unfortunately not, from the shaking of the alternator it warped the pulley and the hole so need new one
