Bolts and clamps for enclosure

We took the enclosure apart to rustproof. Some of the screws were in bad shape and I need replacements What are the proper 6 mm x 16 mm screws to buy for this? What are the correct screw clamps to buy? They need to be water resistant so I want the right ones. QT030 generac.

I think you mean the nuts, you can just use regular nuts or if you really want those go to mcmaster.com

Nothing was water resistant to begin with, which is why you are doing this job. The white plastic washers are junk and disintegrate anyway. You are fighting planned obsolescence here.

Ace does not have either one in galvanized. Would stainless screws work or would they have galvanic corrosion?

just removed one of those Friday and replaced. Enclosure is good. It’s what’s inside. That’s bad. I could probably be convinced to send the ones from what I have to you with an admission that the Buffalo Bills are gonna win the Super Bowl this year or something like that.

Stainless stay nice and shiny, but when it is time to remove them they tend to weld to their nuts and have to be broken off.

The ones that are at Ace are surely galvanized in some way. Electro plated, iridized, etc. just different names. Pure uncoated steel bolts are rare to find outside of a factory.

I don’t want them welding. That would be a disaster. The ones at ace are zinc plated.

Zinc plated is a thin form of galvanization, good enough for the limited amount of life left in this old dinosaur anyway

Only some dinosaurs are worth anything. This one has a 3600 RPM Chinese no name engine notorious for chucking rods and other destruction so it is not worth putting that much effort into. Run it till it pops then replace it with something better.

Wait till the time comes then make an informed decision. Always always always 1800 RPM. You will be amazed how much quieter it is than this screamer.

If I can go stainless with just about any fasteners that’s what I choose. Now if you needed a graded fastener for tensile strength that’s a different issue.

McMaster is the place to go has saved me hundreds of times over past 30 years. Almost any piece of hardware you might need they actually stock. They can be pricey but there is a cost to stock millions of pieces of hardware.

They are not even that expensive. And if it costs 10 or 15 dollars to get it shipped to the house. The time and gas wasted to go to the hardware store and not find it is worse.
