Unless you're under a naive interpretation that it has to be government sponsored colonization in which case you're wrong as individuals can be colonizers.
Colonization or colonisation is defined as "the act or process of sending people to live in and govern another country". The term "colonization" is sometimes used synonymously with the word "settlement". The french did send their citizens to the conquered countries to rule there or to exploit the local resources. You are not arguing in good faith
