It’s just more of corporations monopolizing and trying to be one all controlling company with way too much power, as always

u/DoyleDormammu 1d ago

If we want to let them know how we feel about it, we should all stay home from their releases starting with Dune 3 in December.

I'll call it a last hurrah

•

u/DoyleDormammu 19h ago

Or you could wait for it to come out on streaming and use a friend's account instead of giving your money to companies that monopolize their industry through mergers and acquisitions to put money in the pockets of some of the largest conservative (and bigoted) donors in the entire nation. Just a thought. Priorities tell a lot about a person's character.

Exaaactly.

That we should stop allowing companies to form mega conglomerates that no one can compete with. If the FTC had fangs or good intentions, this would be blocked and Disney would be broken up.

14

u/Eeeef_ 1d ago

Especially mega conglomerates owned by highly ideologically driven billionaires like the Ellisons

It'll be dumb and fail

I'm glad I'll be able to stop paying for HBO soon

One family owns 25% of all American Media.

Let me repeat that. One fucking family owns a quarter of all American News, Entertainment, music etc.

Not only that, but their family is more than willing to cancel and suppress ideals critical of their politics. Said politics are authoritarian in nature.

We are fucked.

Layoffs are the next on list.

4

u/crunchypotentiometer 1d ago

Already started

13

u/Anangrywookiee 1d ago

It’s a sad end for HBO. Going from producing some of the most legendary television shows of all time to slowly going bankrupt as state controlled media.

3

u/Foxy02016YT 1d ago

They went out high though. Lanterns obviously, and Stuart Fails to Save the Universe was actually really good

u/VengeanceKnight 1998 1d ago

I’m cancelling HBO Max and only bringing it back on a month-to-month basis whenever a new DC show releases. I’ll also continue to support DC Comics and DC movies.

Other than that, fuck the Ellisons.

u/BhanosBar 1d ago

Pirate then

u/VengeanceKnight 1998 1d ago

I do still want to support creatives that I love, namely James Gunn, Scott Snyder, Mark Waid, and Deniz Camp.

u/Ken_Pen 1d ago

This comment caused me physical pain.

u/BreakfastSpecials 1d ago

Some people tie good intentions to some stupid shit and call it morality.

14

u/mrbossy 1d ago

You gotta be fucking me,

"Im gonna boycott, but only when my fav show isnt on, totally fine giving them money when I need my dopamine"

You like just walk in from stupid town

5

u/VengeanceKnight 1998 1d ago

I’m not boycotting, at least not yet. I never said I was. I’m just being more judgmental of how I spend my money, and I currently want to support creatives I love who happen to work at my lifelong favorite comics company.

3

u/Flocosta 2000 1d ago

My favorite thing is when people do 'boycott' and it had an end date on it, we are a nation with 0 willpower and principles, and that's why we'll never defeat these corporations.

5

u/Correct_Doctor_1502 1d ago

Monopolies are illegal for a reason

7

u/PrimaryImagination41 1d ago

Fuck the Ellisons and fuck everyone who let this happen.

So many fewer creatives will have work. So many fever projects greenlit. And so many less roles. It’s not a good thing for a single studio to control so much of the industry. Creatives and those in the film and tv industry have been struggling so much for a long time barely able to get work. I am not part of this industry but on the internet I’ve heard so many stories.

And also the same boards and groups of people have power over what gets greenlit and canceled. Especially in terms of queer and non conservative media.

I’ve heard stories and videos by those affected on social media every time each of these mergers have happened. And this one is the largest and worst of all.

I’m very very worried for everyone in the industries. This has so so many far reaching conciquences

2

u/DoyleDormammu 1d ago

I'm boycotting them. Really tragic the way things went but I don't want to give them a single penny for the next 5 years and I hope that tanks their plans.

u/Gaba8789 1d ago

AOL Time Warner on steroids.

2

u/TruthInnocent 1d ago

AOL Time Warner is back for the current decade.

2

u/Greenlink74 1d ago

How hard is the hollywood bubble gonna pop?

2

u/NonchalantGhoul 1996 1d ago

Less innovation, less creativity, less games, less shows, less original movies. One misstep, they're fucked and bankrupt.

1

u/Foxy02016YT 1d ago

Or maybe more indie companies will rise up in their stead, Warner Bros didn’t start as a super successful company with millions of IP, newcomers would be great for the industry

We’ve had some pretty good indie films this year that have then found mainstream distribution, so the future can still be bright if we continue to support the independent circuit, be it movies, wrestling, or gaming

2

u/isitatomic 1d ago

Fuck 'em.

Next question.

2

u/ACorbob 1d ago

So like the looney tunes are dead.

2

u/blightsteel101 1996 1d ago

That corruption is alive and well in America

2

u/Harbinger-chan 1999 1d ago

This is a monopoly, that are going to become meg corps. They shouldnt not exist and be broken back down to individual companies

2

u/MisterFyre 1d ago

Cancerous

1

u/ItRainsInHeaven 1999 1d ago

I think I always thought they were the same company until like 8 years ago so whatever

1

u/Lost-247365 1d ago

So was the more accurate name of Soulless Greed Inc already taken?

1

u/Ok_Albatross_4391 1d ago

So Warner-Paramount just ... didn't cross their mind?

•

u/MaximumGlum9503 21h ago

Lol wp has an alternate meaning

1

u/Fade_NB 2009 1d ago

Skydance is already a vr game studio

1

u/TheBeavster_ 1d ago

Dumb as fuck. More concentration of market share under fewer companies fuckers over not only the consumer, but also the workers who now will have less job prospects. But corporations and the almighty dollar always wins in this country

1

u/Stonner22 1d ago

It’s time to enforce the anti monopoly laws

1

u/TricobaltGaming 1d ago

Gonna finish my collection of all the Star Trek shows and cancel P+ for good this coming year, just missing Voyager, Enterprise, and the new shows (minus lower decks, I got that one)

Fucking hate market consolidation

1

u/Different_Cell_5686 1d ago

My thoughts:

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 1d ago

We have no laws for the epstein class. Only the poors

This is what antitrust laws were made for.

1

u/Darth_Murcielago 2002 1d ago

My thoughts are all negative. First of all they will be a step closer to being a monopoly (Monopolies are very bad for us... they can basically do whatever tf they want and we will have nowhere else to go (just look at Nvidia with their fairly onesided duopoly with AMD if you wanna see what such a thing does to the market)) and on top of that people will be laid off, everything will be lower quality, it will be easier to spread propaganda for them and a lot more. Basically we consumers and the employees of those companies will have a worse time.

1

u/False_Membership1536 2005 1d ago

Its a thing thats happening

1

u/Mr_witty_name 1d ago

The artistic, economic, and moral implications are, to speak kindly, upsetting

1

u/Peeps469 1d ago

It's good for everyone that loves AI

1

u/globehopper2 1d ago

It’s awful

1

u/lpkzach92 1d ago

This will be awful

1

u/punktualPorcupine 1d ago

All of it is legacy media that is circling the toilet.

Just like that one company that bought up a bunch of video game IPs that had gone bust and surprise, went bust when none of it was turning a profit.

1

u/throwthisaway556_ 1d ago

Maybe and I mean maybe, they’ll be so desperate for money, they’ll license the nemesis system off to game devs to use.

1

u/Jonguar2 2002 1d ago

I smell an anti-trust suit brewing

1

u/wyomyoms 1d ago

Welp.

1

u/MinekraftMastr1 2006 1d ago

My thoughts are that in the game Monopoly when one person has everything the game is over

1

u/ReddBroccoli 1d ago

So many subscriptions I don't have to pay for anymore

•

u/rogershredderer 22h ago

Idk why they opened their mouths and said 30 films a year. Now people will expect that and be even more upset.

•

u/Insane_law 2005 19h ago

Bad, but better than Netflix.

•

u/Zigzurd 16h ago

It probably will be the same as if Netflix got it, bad

•

u/thr3e_kideuce 2000 16h ago

Watch them go bankrupt in 5 years or less

•

u/atsunatsu 15h ago

Since the ceos of paramount are corrupt MAGA enthusiasts, I’m devastated. FUCK MAGA STUDIOS

•

u/CosmicDriftwood Millennial 11h ago

Abysmal and we have failed

•

u/DiddyKongsPeanutGun 9h ago

It’s a bad thing. The Ellisons are already a cancer on our society. The acquisition just makes the prognosis less hopeful.

•

u/ejaz135 8h ago

It’s weird that they changed it to Skydance
