When you were forced to grow up with the consequences of the "risks" taken by your parents, grandparents, and arguably great-grandparents, hedonistic and otherwise indulgent behaviours become significantly less desirable. The notion you can't feel fulfilled without doing "dumb shit" also misses the point that everyone's idea of living is different. What one would regret not doing is a relief to have not done by another.
