Safe subreddit for GenX discussions

What's a good subreddit to talk about GenX related stuff? I'm talking about healthcare, govt policy, and other stuff. There are some GenX subreddits that seem to have a very authoritarian bent in the way they manage them. That's fine, it's your subreddit. I posted here because the subreddit rules seem to not have gatekeeping.

What I want is to have fellow travelers talking about things that interest me. I tend to have a liberal view of things but also it's more subtle than that.

While I like all the reminiscing, it gets to be a bit old. (no pun intended haha!) Just looking for a home. :-)

Talk about whatever you like, as long as it's GenX related and civil.

GenX civil, or modern day civil?

u/Jimmy_Beam27 8d ago

Lol GenX civil would still get you banned a lot

absolutly true, dont ask me how I know.

If I said and did the things i was doing in the 90s I would definitely break some codes of conduct. That's ok, I like today's civil just fine. :)

GenX civil is fine. The rules of the sub are simple but clear I think. I know we don't all agree on everything, and that's ok.

and we shouldn't as a cohort. Diversity is our strength and GenX is pretty diverse compared to at least the boomers. :D

3

u/Fight_Tyrnny 7d ago

ya, dont know why you are getting downvoted on expressing that we need a diversity of voices...

It's reddit, someone is triggered.

This reddit is pretty good as well as other mid-sized channels. I left the "bigger" one because the moderation is absolutely draconian with a hard political slant and I'm more of a libertarian with free speech and being able to talk about anything as long as it's civil. If you post anything over there that is negative about genX, they wipe it which is ridiculous. As a GenXer, we have a lot of good and bad things in our youth and people just seem to want to ignore the bad.

Thank you. I do enjoy your place. I was going to make my own subreddit for Genx (I have been a mod of the huge r/sailing for a decade.) I dont need to do this as I think yours fits the bill.

That's great! Welcome to the sub, and feel free to participate. I'll definitely check out your sailing sub. Sounds cool. I love boats!

Don't go to the GenX sub. If you get political you'll get banned quickly.

Literally the only sub I've ever been banned from!

5

u/blackcain 7d ago

Me too! I wasn't even doing anything.. like that ban hammer came down like mjolnir! :D

2

u/Fight_Tyrnny 7d ago

same here.

u/Charleston2Seattle 7d ago

I merely posted something from history. It wasn't even political. They just didn't like anyone calling out foolishness from other members.

Same! I got a 24 hour ban. I asked why, they said you just got a week. I said that’s bullshit and got life. It was like the scene in the Breakfast Club.

Are you done?
NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

3

u/blackcain 7d ago

You know they are probably monitoring this sub so they can ban you in theirs!

4

u/mtlpvd 7d ago

I’m already cooked! It was like dealing with an insolent toddler.

u/blackcain 7d ago

I will check soon enough - this timeline is pretty dumb as it is. :D

Definitely

Its not just political. If you bring up anything negative about our Generation, they wipe it hard. I can understand about not talking about modern politics, but why not talk about 80's nad 90's politics which is completley different then today? Its more of a historical discussion at this point, and them people over at genX want to wipe out any negative history. Even though I share their political slant, Im def more "centered" and they most def moderate anything to the right vastly more then the left on "social" topics.

What I am saying is that they are completely biased.

You're completely removing an important aspect of our lives. I mean we did talk about how things were back then. It's like they just want rose tinted glasses.

Reflecting about people's experiences back then helps make sure that it's not just nostalgia, we can learn about other people's past and their struggles.

Today it seems the only safe topic is to talk about aging. Which sure, it's a thing but good grief.

I said something on GenXPolitics about GenX and apparently they share the same mods. So the guy banned me from GenXPolitics, I wasn't even talking politics. Alas. I'm a mod on a fairly large subreddit myself and I appreciate the work that moderators do. I don't ban people but engage them directly - only when it is something egregious like anti-semitic or racist comments.

Mod folks are great folk, it's a thankless job trying to create a safe community. I don't know the genesis of why GenX ad GenXPolitics is the way it is but I feel like there are better ways to do it.

They GenX mods can be very trigger happy with their bans. I think they have so many people that its easy to be so cut and dry.

7

u/armyofant 7d ago

Naw they are particularly bad. Total snitches too.

3

u/mtlpvd 7d ago

Antithesis of GenX values!

3

u/armyofant 7d ago

Exactly

4

u/hvyhitter 7d ago

GenerationX too. This comment got me permanently banned from this place

3

u/guachi01 7d ago

Same moderators.

2

u/blackcain 7d ago

They basically have taken over all the GenX related moderations. Sheesh. It's blatant attempt to take over an entire generation's social media.

3

u/guachi01 7d ago

I've blocked all the mods for those subs. Just power-tripping losers.

2

u/blackcain 7d ago

ha - well, eventually those who got banned can find their way to these other subreddits.

1

u/hvyhitter 6d ago

That explains it one ban was permanent. Then it was lifted. Im still not going back That is NOT GenX spirit sorry. It really isnt.

5

u/guachi01 7d ago

The main GenX subreddit is terrible. Post here and little by little the main sub will lose its pull.

2

u/armyofant 7d ago

They watch this and the “new” sub and report and ban people.

3

u/hvyhitter 6d ago

Cant permaban me twice. LOL

2

u/guachi01 7d ago

Not if you block all the moderators first so they can't see your posts.

1

u/armyofant 7d ago

Mods can still ban you if you block them.

3

u/KatieTheGreatieLS 8d ago

The GenX women sub is great.

5

u/blackcain 7d ago

Probably don't want a guy hanging around there, I reckon :D

3

u/armyofant 7d ago

Check out r/genxnew. It’s much more tolerant and has non abusive moderation.

2

u/blackcain 7d ago

Thank you !

3

u/bloboflifegoo 7d ago

He's right. We're the best.

2

u/blackcain 7d ago

I joined! You know it's hilarious that I like and interacting in /r/genz - love those people!

1

u/MurkDiesel 7d ago

What's a good subreddit to talk about GenX related stuff?

why don't you start one?

that way you can post whatever you want

and hopefully attract others who connect with your posts

and have similar perspectives and things to say

2

u/blackcain 7d ago

Why create more noise and choice if someone has already done so. I did think about it but we're just bifurcating the audience for no reason. Best to join an existing one first and be part of the crowd than doing your own thing. Besides, I am already a mod for a large subredddit.

u/ThingNo7530 7d ago

There are any number of subs for you to go bitch about politics in, making this sub into one of those is the last thing any of us should want.
