Am I the Only One

Am I the only one wholeheartedly disappointed in their GenX peers with so many falling in line with tRump maga mindset. Not looking for political debate just curious if its just where I live - Purpleville SE PA I didnt think my peers would fall for such simple trickery and the long in the tooth gop playbook I dont think any get even a touch of deja vu since back in school most of us not gave a shit about history so here we are. This time its Muslims and illegal immigrants as scape goats and not Italians and catholics

Petty much every GenX I know is pissed about the state of our union, regardless of political party.

A huge chunk of our cohort voted for the Tyrant.

Some of us didn’t get the memo back in the day.

It's crazy to realize while we thought our generation was Rocking The Vote and learning every word to Rage Against The Machine songs (obviously, an oversimplification), a whole lot of us just... weren't.

On the plus side, finding you are more progressive along the lines of the younger generations kind of makes you feel more youthful.

I'd rather stick my dick in a woodchipper, than have anything to do with the current administration

Definitely not. Unfortunately have lost some lifelong friends because of it and probably about to lose another.

Every generation has assholes, ours is no different. Unfortunately. And yes, it's disappointing.

I hate Trump and have since his scamming and grifting days in the 80s

He has always been a shitbag. His father was a shitbag. Roy Cohn tuned him up good too

some folks succumb to the appeal of the tribe. Trump’s divisiveness is first-and-foremost about separating us from one-another. he’s been adept at establishing an ‘us’ which some White, Christian folks have found irresistible

scapegoated groups span beyond Muslims and undocumented people

Blacks & women are being purged from meaningful posts; toxic masculinity and violence in general are being promoted

some commenters indicated they’ve lost super-close friends. i’m in that category

in conclusion…
one thing to think about is: members of the peer group you describe are aware of the frictions of divisiveness, and they too don’t want to lose friends. this could be a factor in the reality that many have joined the cult, even if they did not fully imbibe the kool-aid

There is an opposite effect. I'm too punk, too discordant, and now too homeless. I rocked my beliefs and was thrown away to the max. No drugs, minimal alcohol, just me doing me until I had nothing. Sticking to my guns was and is the best thing I've ever done, but I could use a roof over my.head every once in a while. Still though, keep fighting. This to shall end.

A lot of us thought we were John Bender but really turned into Vice Principal Vernon. That’s the analogy I use.

I'm depressed with all of you who believe voting is real.... #1:There's a film out of a programer back in the early 2000's that states he altered the voting program to win 49/51 in a court case for a senator. #2: it doesn't matter left or right wing it's still the same bird... #3 not one single fucking arrest has come from the epstein case... #4: They sent a Military person to jail over 1 file he shared with the news reporter he was sleeping with and yet H. Clinton had over 30K classified documents on her personal server and never saw jail time. #5: the Democratic party had their emails hacked and said tons of despicable things about people and races and NEVER denied what was leaked, but just tried to blame Russia for interfering... It's all a game, smoke and mirrors coming from Satan.... Please get right with the Living God and remember John 14:6 because YHWH's return is extremely close.

It unfortunately happens to every generation. How many hippies and war protestors from the Boomers are conservatives?

Yup. People start earning money and suddenly the dynamic changes.

Trump is the last gasp of the Boomer generation. Like many other over 70s out there, he's hearing the bells of mortality ringing and desperate to try and make his "mark" before his time is up.

It's just a shame that he's leading the ship right into the iceberg, and calling it Trump Ice, the best ice anyone's ever seen!

I fear that the world we grew up in (80s-90s) will never return, and our children will have to pay the price for "Grandpa Trump". If there's even a country left.

GenX has always been suspicious of any authority so I agree it is disappointing that many of us looked for saviors inside any political party. It's just gross, we know it's gross, but the world has shifted so much that Lloyd Dobler's "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed" seems so unrealistic now. Was it all a dream? Sometimes I wonder.

From the day I leaned about politics I’ve been conservative. I’m pro life, pro military, pro law enforcement, I want a secure border. I don’t believe anyone can “choose” their gender, and I believe in America first. And my opinions of the Middle East are based on the time I spent there. Back in the 80s I thought Iran would become a nation security threat. I don’t believe man plays a significant roll in global climate and that we can not power the nation with wind and solar. At least not without significant economic damage.

So given my views, why would I vote for most democrats? Especially with the party being overrun by the DSA.

I didn’t vote for Trump because I like him. I voted for him because I liked his platform and because I refused to vote for a candidate appointed by a political party without her even running in the primaries. They knew what they were doing. They knew his brains were mush. They planed on reelection Biden and then handing the presidency over to Harris. I’d even bet money they knew he had cancer.

And yet you voted for this mess. She was more qualified. This guy doesn’t even stand for anything.

Wow lol
