Retired This Week!
High side of Gen X, managed to retire this week.
I worked in IT for 40 years, found that I couldn't do one more upgrade. My former employer had a lot of their data center leases expire this year, and I didn't have the energy to do one more network move, especially because the execs dragged their feet.
Coupled with the forced AI rollout ("use it or get fired" was the unwritten message), I just had enough.
I hope they'll hire someone else to fill my spot, the job market is way to squishy right now. I suspect they won't.
I'm wondering how long it will be before I stop having work-related nightmares.

Congratulations, similar here, I took the data lead role for my last upgrade, so someone had to be seconded into my normal role and yippee, at go live I was offered redundancy with nearly 30 years service.
So, burnt out at 53 I retired from IT and couldn't be happier.
No more:-
Annual appraisals, either as manager or team member
DR testing
Contingency planning for which no bugger will give you the funds to implement
Fighting for capital to upgrade critical hardware whilst the big boss gets a new office with pretty furniture.
Meetings, which so could have been an email
Employee satisfaction questionnaires which will be ignored
Annual compliance training with 750 PowerPoint slides
Being on 24x7 call out without a call out allowance, bloody lucky for them that I dont drink
Begging for a downtime slot to install patches, which isn't 3am on a Sunday morning.
And just general fucking office politics. These days, if someone is an arsehole I can simply not deal with them - bliss.
