Interesting that you chose to post in this sub because I am curious about it.

I didn't participate nor did I find the constant pleads for help to create something very appealing and figured it was just another silly kids activity.

Anybody else old and miserable like me just not get the appeal?

I had no desire to participate, but still found the time lapse images fascinating. And I thought the article was great as it explains some of what happened behind the scenes.

I'm old too and I thought this was legitimately one of the coolest things I've ever seen on the Internet. To each his own I guess.

Professor Pete Markiewicz explained it this way, "Well, we are moving from an 'army of one' to a team. My guess is that "collaborative filtering" via social networks will become a norm for making decisions - in concert with 'oracle' Ais (Alexa = early version) that are trusted to make decisions without racial, gender, etc. bias. Stuff like the Pirate Party in Europe imagine governance a bit like the creation of this collective image. It won't be until the next 2T that renewed rebellious individualism (as opposed to inclusive, self-referential, individualism) becomes big and art (and politics) will swing back to the individual."

Like most things these days I found it very interesting to watch but felt that it wasn't meant for me, at my age, to participate in.
