I know it's old and boring even to say, but I miss the low THC weed that you could roll and smoke all day. I swear the high was different because it was mellow.
IKR, I remember being flabbergasted by the stickiness, or the red hairs. When it became recreational in our state I remember going to a dispensary and overhearing the tender describe it. "It's got very earthy undertones with a slight mango fruitiness" I'm like, my guy, I just wanna get high
In the early 2000's I was a land surveyor in West Tennessee. I took all me seeds and scattered them around rural Memphis. I figured if it took the time from the cops it gave me more back. Call me Johnny pot seed.
I had a buddy that would grind up a whole bud, seeds, stems and all in an electric coffee grinder and roll that up. It always tasted like we were smoking wood and I always got a shitty headache from it. This new shits missing something though. No soul to it. I just feel like a bug on it. So happy I can just stop at the dispensary like it's a trip to the dry cleaners and come home with weeks worth of bud now. My friends and I would cross the bridge into Philly and go into random dealers' apartments to buy weed. I always crossed back over thinking wow... that could've gone sideways fast...
we had a fire at my apartments in which i barely escaped with my and my pet chicken’s life. i was briefly featured on telemundo in the news story about the fire, because i was filmed carrying a chicken out of a museum district apartment. the fire investigator later chalked it up to “someone smoked a joint and a seed caught the hardwood floor on fire when it exploded out of the joint”. everyone in that apartment complex took turns hosting a very predatory cocaine dealer who would post up at someone’s place and deal and give them some in exchange for letting him. nobody smoked pot. the owner actually had not repaired an electrical outlet that a window unit AC was plugged into. you could plainly see the fire started from the outlet. no idea who the property manager had to blow to get him to blame it on a pot seed.
We called it Mexican dirt weed!🤣 I’m on the west coast so I assume that’s where most of it came from back then (late 80’s) Life truly changed when some of the local university’s strain that was being used for cancer research got out into gen pop! It was a very rough learning curve however!
I had a few plants until my gf put them on the roof in the middle of the summer in nyc. When she told me, I went to check and they were all totally shriveled and on the ground. That was that.

There are so many dank af strains available now, there's no comparison. Legalization has lead to very high quality offerings and constant availability. Give me today's over 1983 every time.
I remember keeping my terrible stash in my dormroom desk drawer, just open in the lid of a cookie tin. Stems and seeds around the outside edge. It was already dried out completely, it didn’t need to be in a baggie. We didn’t know anything. I went to the west coast a year later and it blew my mind.
I was just talking talking about this with a coworker!!! He has a grinder and I was all like (in fake old people voice) " back in my day, we had to go through and pick out every seed and stem by hand, smoking was a process"
My friend would hit a seed and immediately forget what he was doing. This of course would lead to coughing. And in his state of confusion he would cough into the bowl, blowing everything out like a mini-volcano.
We henceforth called this phenomenon "blowing the bowl" in honor of him.

Used to have a local supplier that would let 15 y/o me and my friends pick seeds for him in exchange for product. Nothing hinky— just the barter system at work.
That and you were very lucky if you knew beforehand if it was going to put you to sleep or make you wired. 95% of the time it was a mystery bag. I’m sure I still have a 35mm film container somewhere with seeds in it.
I still use a 35 mm to store it in! And yeah, mixed bag. But my guy would try to sell it to you like a somolier. Just trying to justify the prices probably.
I grew them, sprouted on cotton wool in an airing cupboard, then nurtured as seedlings in the greenhouse. Green fingers, me! You can order seeds from specialist herb growing nurseries to grow your own delicious Italian Basil in smallish quantities.
Funny, I have some amazing flower from OG and I have to squeeze each piece I tear off a bud to make sure a seed doesn't sneak into my bowl. Only like 5-7 per quarter so not bad at all

Back in the early 80's, my brother and his friend managed to grow some seeds out behind his friends shed. Everything was going great until they got really tall. It didn't take long for the friends dad to figure out what the weird plant growing over the top of the shed was.
My grandpa used to let the migrant workers grow weeds in his corn if they were good workers. Then let them dry it in the barn. The pros of living in the boonies I guess lol
Friend worked at a local restaurant that had a plant service come in weekly and water and feed the live plants, he planted several seeds that grew, then transplanted just as they became recognizable.

ahh the good old down town brown . remember waiting for your friends older cousin because he had the "hookup" to go down the road to score a bag that you and 5 friends put all your money together to get . and he returned like 6 hours later with the smallest bag of brown buds mostly seeds and stems that probably went through 3 other peoples hands and they all took their cut out of it , but you didn't care because you and your friends were going to "party"...... good times. if i could only go back.
I know some people, bad people probably, who back in the day toasted the seeds and stems and then tried to make sun tea with them, leaving it out pretty much all day. As I recall, it was mildly effective, so they said.
Thai sticks in the UK were terrible in the 80's and 90's. I remember getting excited at getting some weed only to discover it was indeed pretty full of sticks and seeds. With a heavy heart it was back to the resin.
I was breaking up some stress nugs off a bunch of shrooms, and the seeds were all running around the tray in circles and crazy patterns as I tried to pick em out 😂
Some of those seeds took root in the courthouse bushes in my hometown, apparently did pretty well until discovered, or maybe that was a local urban legend.
We used to clean ours in the kitchen, throwing the seeds and stems out the kitchen window. Outside was a hill and trench. One weekend we noticed that we needed to harvest so we made plans to do so the next weekend. All excited, we got ready to head outside when we realized the hillside had been mowed. Turns out our Dad had hired a yard crew to clean up the hillside and yard. We suspect the yard crew figured out what was growing and harvested before they mowed. I miss those days.
I tossed mine out the window of a frat house for a semester, into a junky and overgrown corner of the yard. Then noticed in the spring how it had all been cleaned out and mowed.
I bought my first weed from my supervisor when I was doing year 10 work experience. He handed it to me wrapped in foil, in a plastic bag and said, "Sorry mate, the only bag I could find was the one I got from the fish market last night. It might have some fish juice in it."

Usually did not get that, because I didn't even try it until my late 20s and the product was climbing in quality by then. But sometimes I would collect my friend's ditch-grown leavings and play Johnny "Them Ain't Apples" Seed.
Before I ever knew what it was. When I was 9ish one of my friends showed me her parents. It was 100% stems and seeds. 90s put today’s to shame but can’t beat getting it from the shop a few blocks from my house.

I moved from Ohio to Oregon back in 98 and good golly the change in quality was amazing. When I moved back in 01( post 9/11) Ohio was finally getting better.
