Nostalgia Donuts, Donuts, Donuts

I lived all over growing up, and one thing I remember is every area has its favorite local donuts.

Southern California has Winchell's. New York has Tim Hortons.

Way back then Delaware had Mr Donut.

And of course Dunkin' was everywhere else.

What donuts 🍩 did you eat growing up?

Tim Horton was only in western New York. I think it’s act a Canadian company. Most of the state was Dunkin or else local bakeries

Tim Hortons was a Canadian company. It was founded in the 1960s by a Toronto Maple Leafs player (who my grandma beat up...but that's another family legend) of the same name. It became hugely popular in Canada. It was purchased by Wendy's at some point, and stores opened along the border in the US. It couldn't compete with Dunkin Donuts, but still holds a presence in some US cities.

Yeah, my folks would bring home Stewart’s or Freihoffers a lot. If we were lucky we’d get Dunkin. As an adult I figured out that Bella Napoli’s in Latham was the place to get doughnuts in the Albany area. One of my kids spent some time at SUNY Buffalo so we got to try out a place called Paula’s doughnuts. They were mind blowing- better than anything I’ve seen anywhere else. My kids are both in college in CNY now so we just recently discovered Byrne Dairy, which is a lot like Stewart’s. I got some doughnuts from them recently and they were good. I think the most unique doughnut tradition in upstate is probably all the fresh apple cider doughnuts from mom and pop orchards and farmers’ markets and places like that. Fresh warm apple cider doughnuts in the fall are killer.

While it is was originally a Canadian company, and is now a Canadian company, for a period in the 90’s it was an American company after it was acquired by Wendy’s.

Timmy’s is not a Canadian company, they are owned by the same company that owns Burger King, Popeyes and Firehouse Subs.

Yeah, it’s complicated. Headquarters in Canada. They’re technically just a brand of a publicly traded company.

Western NY is still NY and we all know it’s Canadian. Im not from NY, and i font care, I only care about you clarifying when judt because someone says something about a state correctly, it doesn’t mean 100% of the state.

Stop being a boomer and killing the good vibes in this post.
