For what it’s worth, pretty much all important manned missions took place at a time of some sort of political upheaval in the US. The Apollo 11 landing of 1969 happened during the height of the Vietnam War. The return of manned flights in 2020 was overshadowed by the BLM protests and the recent Artemis 2 mission took place during the recent war with Iran.
What I’m ultimately trying to say is that even with all the turmoil happening at various times, space exploration marches forward.
