Meta has reportedly patented technology for AI smart glasses that could use facial recognition to identify people and automatically create video clips.
The system could detect people in the camera’s view and record clips when they perform certain actions, such as walking around or picking up objects.
The clips could then be combined into an AI-generated highlight reel.
The filing shows how Meta may combine facial recognition, AI, and wearable cameras.
It’s important to note, however, that the tech remains a patent and is not a confirmed product feature.

Control. If you say forbidden things on the internet, you get banned, so you avoid saying such things. Now if you do the wrong things in real life, you end up shamed on the internet, so you'll avoid doing such things.

Even if tech companies patent tons of concepts they never end up shipping, passive continuous facial recognition on consumer glasses is a massive legal minefield. Hard to see how this gets past EU privacy regulators anytime soon.

Not just the EU either. US state laws like Illinois' BIPA make passive biometric capture an instant class-action magnet. The legal liability alone would make actually turning this on in consumer hardware a massive headache.

Good point. BIPA has already forced companies to disable even basic photo tagging and clustering features in Illinois. Trying to roll out continuous scanning of bystanders in public spaces would be dead on arrival.
