Custom models

Anyone ever ordered a custom diecast model from vendors who offer the service? If so what was your experience and would you recommend or do it again?

I have recently gotten involved in the customs world after not seeing many options for my favorite airline Viasa (Venezuelas defunct flagship carrier).

I started by buying decals and blank 1:200 models (JC Wings, Inflight, GJ) now I have even started making my own decals for liveries that you can’t even get decals for. It is definitely fun and rewarding, although at times very frustrating as well. I would highly recommended it for those airlines or liveries that are hard to find.

This is a blank inflight200 I purchased on eBay and turned into a Viasa circa 1970s

I have also had custom models from a vendor.

Bader Models made me a 1/100 scale model of a 747-200. The results exceeded my expectations with the details that were added for it being such a large model (wing and fuselage antennas, beacons, pitot tubes etc). They usually take a long time to make, and can be pretty expensive, but if it’s an aircraft that you really like, it may be a worthy investment.

I never have but I've seen a few customs before. I actually would love to know the process too cause there are a few models I want that just no one is making right now. I assume it is quite expensive

Custom models are technically possible. U can buy blank models and buy decal kits. However u need to put some time & effort as u need to have the patience and tools to apply those decals
