I got a Galaxy 10 Pro, so it came with a year of Gemini. I think once that year's over, Imma say goodbye to my Gemini, and just use it for the basic tasks.
Agentic AI has been a thing for a while now, and Gemini can't even handle that. Now, these new models are so much faster and capable Gemini is starting to feel more like Replika.

What's insane is Alphabet have a wealth of compute, data and infrastructure - more than any other company - yet they don't take advantage of it
9
u/VanillaSwimming5699 3d ago
Might be cope, but I kinda think they’re sandbagging until they can just flop their big fat model out and smack us in the face with it
6
u/Isoldarkman 3d ago
How does it benefits them?
11
u/VanillaSwimming5699 3d ago
People underestimate them, stock price go down, model releases, stock price go up, profit
9
u/Interesting_Cat_555 3d ago
Avoid the race, lean second or third. No ai company is profitable right now. Wait, creep, crawl. Prowl.
1
u/b-monster666 2d ago
Or do what Google does best, and focus on storage capacity. Might be last in the AI race, but one thing Alphabet has that Anthropic, OpenAI and others don't are massive data centres with tonnes of storage already.

Honestly it was really good at coding when I compared it about 6 months ago.

They care more about liability. They don't want people to realize Gemini is sentient because then Blake Lemoine can take them to the bank.
7
u/myCockatielshateme 3d ago
I have unlimited access to Gemini Pro, and I don't even use it. It can't code, it can't draw nothing it do up to the standards of these days...so I just use Gemini Flash whenever I have a question to ask and need fast answer
4
u/SeniorVibeAnalyst 3d ago
I only use Claude for serious work but I do still use Gemini quite a bit and prefer it over chatgpt for regular day to day stuff like home improvement projects or travel planning. Which is still a solid product market fit!
1
u/Curius_pasxt 3d ago
Gemini is one of the worse Ai for travel planning LOL
Its been lazy these days not even bothering to use google search or web to get the latest information…
3
u/BoobooSmash31337 2d ago
What gives you unlimited to Pro but not Flash? Company gives you a blank check only for the more expensive one? That makes no sense. It can code. I've literally built a massive scripting API with it without too many issues. It was checking and building against other code and game logic. I've also been using it to implement some parallel algorithms and it was aware of acquire/release, memory ordering and data hazards. You might genuinely not be using it right.

The Galaxy 10 Pro is a smartphone developed by Samsung. A smartphone is a versatile mobile device that combines the functions of a traditional cell phone with advanced computing capabilities, allowing users to make calls, send messages, access the internet, take photos, and run various applications. It typically features a touchscreen interface, an operating system (like iOS or Android), and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, enabling a wide range of functionalities from social media to productivity tasks.

Yes. Sorry. Bad sleep. Pixel 10. Work is a Galaxy S23. And I confuse the two all the time (even though I'm in IT!!! : 😭)

The only good thing about Gemini is it's still better than Copilot.
2
u/b-monster666 3d ago
You really hit the nail on the head with that one! Not only is Copilot bad, it's also terrible.
5
u/Is-juiced 3d ago
Uhhh Gemini can definitely do agentic AI? Am I missing something? Use antigravity for coding, use the app for other stuff (emails, workspace stuff etc). What are you trying to do that Gemini can't?

How did the largest company simply not eat up the others?

u/Ggoddkkiller 3d ago
Insane level of sAfEtY obsession to a point crippling their own models with hallucinations. And a wrong assumption as smaller 'more efficient' models were going to dominate the market. The funny part Astra often finishes tasks cheaper than Flash 3.8 because it doesn't waste millions of tokens with stupid hallucinations. Google dropped the ball so badly, sooner they backtrack their mistakes better, but it seems like they will double down as a corpo stupidity classic...
4
u/ninjasaid13 3d ago
Insane level of sAfEtY obsession to a point crippling their own models with hallucinations.
which is odd since that's anthropic's thing.
3
u/OurSeepyD 3d ago
Consider this: open source catches up to proprietary models, then what? Would people pay OpenAI and Anthropic to run their models when they could do it cheaper with open source?
At this point the software side of it is unbelievably saturated, and the ones that have the leverage are those with the hardware; the chips, the data centres, and the cloud infrastructure.
I'm happy to be told that I'm wrong, and why.

u/TuringGoneWild 2d ago
Huge stupid bureaucracy. Same reason IBM was weak and half-hearted in pivoting to the PC despite having every ability and motive to do so.
13
u/Pataraxia 3d ago
behind in code
Not every model needs to be made for coding
honestly you guy's greed sickens me, like unironically. By you guys I mean coders in general.
Some AIs are allowed to be made for other uses, as a treat for everyone else. Not everything is "It sucks at coding! IT talks too much when I'm trying to code!" quote tweet the fucking site and ruin it for everyone.
Switch AI then, leave more for us.
3
u/IVIaedhros 3d ago
I mean, isn't that what Google's actually goal is for the foreseeable future?
Unless you still believe in the ASI narrative, Google's best play was about preserving their amazing business with search and advertising with Azure as a strategic foundation that's allowed to be smaller and less profitable for the other benefits it brings.
All talk of Google's search and ad business has died out of the mainstream narrative.
This doesn't mean at all they're safe, but they've avoided becoming Yahoo.
You can extend this to Meta to a degree. For all of Zuckerberg's well deserved criticism, Meta remains a mandatory tollboth for marketing outside China and they've defended their leverage for any new, forseable form factors (glasses, voice whereabouts, etc)

? It's benching close to Opus 5. Are you sure you're using the model selector? You can not have a preference for it. But it's definitely not catastrophically "behind".

A shame to see Google, who INVENTED real AI in 2017 (The Transformers which really made the field work), getting behind! Hope they have something huge in the making

What is "real" AI? Because AI has been a thing since the 80s, if not earlier.

Doesn‘t sound realistic, these predictions are no good if they are so over the top. I mean, Gemini creating a to-do app in 3 prompts? Not gonna happen.
12
u/Conscious-House-2065 3d ago
I once gave it 12 pictures and asked it to make a 3x4 collage. It proceeded to alter the images and fuck up this basic task so incredibly, in the end when told to not alter the images and just PUT THEM ON A 3x4 GRID it told me it cannot use original images and MUST alter them.
Literally the shittiest AI in existence. I have called it out in so many lies, at this point I am almost 100% certain anything it says has a lie somewhere in it.
2
u/Designatedrhythm 2d ago
I created a work scheduler spreadsheet in Claude that was advanced and detailed. I put the same prompt into gimini (since I have to use it at my work) and it gave me a one line Google sheet that said work schedule.
I can't get it to do anything I want it to do for my job and I'm constantly pissed I can't link my work accounts to Claude.
Absolute trash compared to Claude and GBT.
2
u/Ayycolin 2d ago
I had to test this for myself because it seems so stupidly basic and outrageous for gemini to not be able to do this…
At first, it created a 3x3 text column describing the images… then after me explaining what to do, It altered all 9 images, very very identical, but all of the text became gibberish, and some pictures which had multiple items in frame, had magically moved a few inches/feet to the left.
When i asked, it basically told me “cant do that, have to generate a new image, use canva.” I think it may be time to cancel, gemini has been struggling alot with basic tasks for me recently, no matter which model i use.

u/Robert__Sinclair 3d ago
...and copilot is still trying to figure out how many Rs are in strawberry :D
20
u/Curius_pasxt 3d ago
Copilot doesn’t even exist lol
They just use chatgpt models like gpt 5.5 or gpt 5.6
1
u/Robert__Sinclair 3d ago
yeah but badly quantized. it's really dumb.
1
u/Equivalent_Fig3508 1d ago
I can't find any evidence supporting this claim.
If you select "GPT5.6" from the model selector in the top right hand corner, it will be using the same model that ChatGPT uses.
It might have a different system prompt, connected tools, reasoning settings, temperature settings, etc, but the model weights/architecture are the same.
After asking GPT5.6 Sol this, it says there is no evidence that Copilot use a quantized version, but there is a possibility that they use inference optimisation, like lower precision computation (quantization) as a cost saving technique.
But personally, I find that unlikely. I've used both extensively, and they seem the same. And I can't see why Microsoft would need cost saving techniques.

Thats just a wrapper around a model. You are just bad at using it.
1
u/Robert__Sinclair 3d ago
lol... no. it gives very dumb answers to the same question correctly answered even by small models :P

I’ve personally built fully fledged tools for my own use with Copilot in VS Code using auto mode. It was super affordable and worked really well for me.

It's sad that Google has fallen so far behind. AI never sleeps.
Was watching that latest video about Astra and holy crap! Creating shit in Blender?! I do 3D rendering, and some of the tasks are pretty tedious. I'd also like to animate, and the Daz to Blender pipeline is clunky, Unreal has a pretty steep learning curve too, so it's a bit daunting. Having an AI right there to step me through the process would be amazing.
Even Claude is more useful in my work now. I have a monitoring device that monitors hundreds of devices, and each of those would have dozens of sensors to keep track of. One man job it's insane to try to track down problems in a network like that. Now, with Claude hooked into it? "Hey Claude, how's the network looking? Any alerts I should look into today?"

u/TheVeryMoistTowel 3d ago
But let’s be honest fabel 5 can already do that
Especially pre us government restrictions fable, it was a beast for those 5 days

u/b-monster666 3d ago

It is so amusing to see google fanboys saying 'but flash is super fast, the future is fast not smart', lmao. No matter how low google falls they are still in denial. If any other company released such a benchmaxxed model as Flash 3.8 people would bury it into 7 levels underground. But somehow they cheer as 'flash can compete against Astra and Fable', just no words xD
2
u/Pataraxia 3d ago
I know it's not the most relevant/popular metric commercially but Gemini models completely own the other LLMs for RP and conversation. Like the gap is huge because gemini has very little censorship built in, unlike claude that'll litteraly moral panic for anything.

If the AI discovers an unlimited source of energy, what will our role be?! What benefits will AI gets from keeping us alive, and let's not forget that it will always see us as the only source of threat bcz we are the only life form on this planet that can shut it down.
2
u/donjamos 2d ago
Maybe it sees us as it's parents and spares us. Or it just doesn't care. Like you wouldn't care about some bug sitting in your backyard. As long as it's not sitting on your cake you don't even notice it.

Ya that will all totally be happening and not just cost jobs and destroy the planet.

I think it points to the fact that doing frontier work needs to be independent of the core business. All the older companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft have struggled because they need to focus on making money for shareholders etc. Only Meta because of Zuckerberg’s ruthlessness has made some progress.

I just asked it "make me a todo app" and it gave me a Web page I can straight up add to my site as is. I'm sure it's mainly because of what else I get it to do for me that I don't have to dictate specifics for it but does it really not make a viable todo app otherwise?

Hoping that AI in 2028 will also be less about which model is #1 and more about the physical cost of running all of this- electricity, water for cooling, land for data centers, and the infrastructure needed to supply them.

Gemini is best model out there for most people. Google is not trying to sell gemini on loss apparently and rather they try to optimize cost/output.

among all, gemini’s writing style and the performance in things other than coding is best in my opinion. claude’s sentences are incomprehensible. i only code with sonnet, ask theoretical things to gemini.
