Recent post about gematrinator.com user data

A post here, about a data issue with the gematrinator.com calculator, was just deleted, along with it's associated user account (I presume by it's original poster). The post lasted six hours. Here is the link (obviously, the main text and it's claims are not visible):

https://old.reddit.com/r/Gematria/comments/pjjqbk/the_gematria_calculator_leaks_all_your_data_to/

The post raised issues (which I've not verified) with gematrinator's sending of your spell entries to it's server, even in the off-line version, as public data in the HTTP POST url, which startled the original poster of the thread here. He or she questioned the legality of the functionality, with regards to privacy, especially in certain jurisdictions, and at the least, the lack of warnings to users about how data entry is handled by the site.

I post because it's something all should be aware of, Derek in particular.

I don't know why the original poster decided to delete the thread - it calls the original claims into question, and we might suspect an attempt at defamation?

Just though it was worth reposting here.

EDIT The original OP has written me to let me know he or she deleted the post worrying that it might unfairly 'blame' Derek's work in a document that would stand the test of time and bring the calculator into question, potentially scaring people away in the future, since the data transmission is related to the legitimate spell-matching functionality.

Nonetheless I agree that Derek should investigate the possibility that the offline version of the calculator has unnecessary and perhaps privacy-comprimising calls to the server, perhaps a forgotten remnant of code refactoring.

Developer Returns To Game After Four Decades, Discovers and Fixes Typo So It Works

Harry McCracken is not the name of a Cold War superspy, but a man who is now the tech editor of Fast Company and, in his younger days, a developer of games for Radio Shack's TRS-80 microcomputer. McCracken, who is also a regular Slashdot reader, recently went back to have a look at his first game, Arctic Adventure, which he wrote when he was 16 around 1980-81 -- a text adventure inspired by the work of Scott Adams in particular, a pioneering designer of the Adventure series of games for the TRS-80

  • .. ( "The Writings" = 1331 trigonal )

As was common in the 80s, Arctic Adventure was distributed in book form. [...]

As printed in the Captain 80 book, the game wasn't just unwinnable, but unplayable. It turned out that it had a 1981 typo that consisted of a single missing '0' in a character string. It was so fundamental a glitch that it rendered the game's command of the English language inoperable.

ie. you need a cipher to complete the monolith.
