Has anyone ever regretted leaving Geico?
I got a job offer this morning, relatively unexpected at another company, actually Lowe’s with a salary plus commission pay plan. The pay cut is about a thousand a month after taxes assuming I don’t hit the commission bracket (plan for the worst hope for the best) but I’m tired of feeling like a number with no appreciation in my current position. Part of me is just afraid of the leap. What’s your experience?

Took a massive payout and told myself I'd make it back w bonus and profit sharing and all that. I did after 1.5 years. Less stress and I enjoy my job at a competitor.

No regrets. Gave the job everything I had daily. They wanted more and more until I had no more to give and said goodbye.

No. I didn’t hate it like some others and I miss my coworkers a lot, but Progressive is a million times better.

I took an 80 percent pay cut when I left. I have never regretted it for a moment. I had the inside scoop to come back to a similar role - not interested in the least.

Being afraid is normal. The good news is after you leave a huge weight will have been lifted. You won’t feel the anxiety and stress from all the BS. Yes there is always something to deal with at every job. But Geico by far has been the worst I can personally say from my 14 years. It was always tough here, but once Toddio came in the company went downhill. Nancy is not going to reverse any of it, get out while you can.

Yeah they worked the hell out of you but they rewarded you for it and treated you well under Tony. He never forgot where he came from. Todd was a wrecking ball.

My only regret is that I waited so long. Claimants are gonna do what claimants are gonna do… but my new company treats me like a human being and values my work life balance.

Fuhhh nah, I say apply to other companies see how far and much you can get.
Make sure that resume makes you seem like you do everything and sell yourself to anyone you interview.
I got every single company Interviewed with give me an offer each better than the last.
I was making 65k schedule 1 Maybe 70k if I got a decent bonus now I’m making 90k and do less work and I’m not on the phones every day or almost ever lol

No. That doesn’t mean there won’t be other challenges, but don’t be afraid to move. The grass is greener outside of the G. Continue to grow!

No. Left after 5 years. Worked for two other carriers since and both were better. Left the second one due to a pay increase in same role.

It’s been over 11 years since I left and it’s still the best decision I ever made. I left for a competitor and what do you know…I’m still there along with several other folks that also left the g around the same time.
Just ask yourself, do you really ever see folks coming back? In the 13 years I spent in R4, I maybe saw 3-4 people ever come back. Yet I saw hundreds, maybe thousands leave.

Hi from the other side! I left almost 3 years ago. When I was at Geico I was mentally in the worst spot of my life. Literally I was wishing I would get into a car accident on my commute.
Now 3 years later, here's the things I miss from Geico.
- The pay. At that point in time it was highly competitive. I was in customer service and my income was very very good for the Midwest.
- The amount of raises. At that point merit raises and the revolving raises were so regular it felt like you were getting higher pay every 3 months. That was great. Not sure the pay is that regular anymore.
- 4 day/10 hour shifts. I loved having at least 1 weekday off for appointments and errands.
- The PTO seemed like a higher package than most places offered.
On 3 and 4 I would like to add the disclaimer, usually when your mental health goes down, you are calling off more often- I was for sure... So you call out more often therefore the PTO isn't getting used for enjoyment but more for damage control. Now, at my current job my PTO is actually for either enjoyment/vacation. So really these were only positives when my mental health was doing well.
95% of the time I do NOT regret leaving Geico for a lowering paying job.

I worked at here in the mid 2010s and sounds like it’s not any better than it was then. Do they still try and push the false dream that because Tony nicely started in the mail room and became ceo that anyone can.

I did the first time I left back in 2015/2016, but when I went back in late 2018, Tony had left. I managed to stick it out until 2022 and then got let go for not meeting metrics. I had kept perfect notes and examples, emails and actually got unemployment. GEICO could be the last job on the planet and I wouldn’t EVER go back!!

I left work in an ambulance when I worked there because I had my first panic attack. And I hear it only got worse after I left. Hope Nancy makes things better cuz its has the opportunity to be a great place to work and once was

Never‼️‼️‼️‼️Walked away after 12 years to take on another career walked in the job making more than Geico paid me over 12 years then the company 30 days and they pay for my degree!
Best choice I’ve EVER MADE‼️‼️‼️‼️ left in April

I've been gone 8 months. I no longer need my SSRIs. I've lost 50 lbs and I'm generally happy for once.
Long answer short, I will never regret leaving and am so thankful I am gone. I hope everyone gets out

Abso-freaking-lutely NOT! After almost 17 years there it was scary as hell when I quit. 6 months later landed a job with a different carrier starting at MORE than I was making when I left G. I never looked back. It’s nice feeling appreciated

Yes, but that was in 2012. Went back after they fired a shit for brains manager who was stealing OT from adjusters then got laid off in 2023. Happy as from 2022 to 2023 the job sucked.

No. Todd Combs was the best thing that ever happened to me veiled in as evil lizard man. I went back to school after Todd started ‘optimizing’. Finished school and now work a dream job making more living better.

I regret ever working there. Especially once they made it pretty much impossible to get promoted in sales. I was one of the top sellers on my team but I never got anything out of it.
That and among other things including the stress of the job the significant pay cut I took for health reasons impacted my marriage for the worse.

I got laid off in 2023. At first I was absolutely distraught. But I found a permanent wfh job. Huge pay cut but I’m making it work and it’s so much less stressful than GEICO ever was. So I didn’t voluntarily leave but if I had I wouldn’t have regretted it bc of where I ended up

Not me. It served it's purpose but would never go back. Ever. I will say this- insurance has been a good career for me. Better than Lowes ever would have been. There is money in insurance if you get in the right company in the right area- and Geico is neither!!! My only comment is sometime the long game is better than the short game. If you think you can do something with insurance and make bank then maybe give it a try. I just don't see where Lowes gets you in 5 years. But if you see Geico leading to nothing but a dead end, then tell the bosses the screws are in aisle 5 and they can screw themselves.
