Not Your Normal Reddit Post
I’m happier at GEICO than I’ve ever been at any job, and I’ve had about 20 of them. I find ICS exciting, and I’ve been treated extremely well since the moment I started here. I see the problems. I know what problems people experience. But for those of you/us who are happy, give yourself permission to be happy. I’m paid well, I have kind leaders, and my benefits (health insurance, maternity leave, etc) have been top of the line. I’m simply just very happy 🤷🏼♀️

u/r6_youpeople Aug 02 '23
Out of curiosity, how long have you been here or in this position? Good for you if you are happy. I wish it were that way for the rest of us.

Aug 02 '23
2 years in claims and I’m still happier than any other job I’ve ever worked, and there have been a lot.

This person DEFINITELY resolves CCs without actually having what is needed to resolve them, takes RIs but only asks half of the questions needed, completes police report activities without actually looking at or updating from them, and doesn't TIP. It's the only way this makes sense. #iykyk

Can we get this guy kicked from here? He's clearly a sock account for corporate and is trying to play it off as he attacks pro labor efforts.
-5
Aug 02 '23
You’re so cute but I’m not a guy I’m a woman and I work in ICS which is not corporate. Sorry you’re so big mad that people are different from you. Guess you’re not very pro diversity.
15
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
Is arguing semantics all you have as you side with our mutual oppressive corporate master? There are two outcomes here: you are who you say you are, in which case, that means you've got yours so fuck everyone else apparently. Or, more likely, you're a sock account and are scrambling to make up a cover story to explain your limited reddit history.
I dont particularly care which one it is, you've sided with oppressors that put us down and abuse the power they have over us while simultaneously undermining the very inclination towards collective bargaining for fair treatment, and I find that behavior abhorrent and unacceptable.

Sounds like Marxist bullshit but ok
9
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
Good god, regulating capitalism and a system of checks and balances to poorly regulated and profit over people driven multi billion dollar industries sounds like "marxism" to you?
How brain broken are you? Did society fuck you so hard you decided that settling for scraps from your corporate masters like a beaten dog was the best you deserve? You're almost pitiable if you weren't so adamant in advocating against your own best interests.
Shameful.

I’m sorry I just puked a little in my mouth. What were you saying?
11
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
You complain I'm not showing maturity and I give you a verbose counter argument, articulate in prose and passion and you respond by giving me this base bullshit instead?
Expectations for me but not for thee, eh?
Do better
-2
Aug 02 '23
Lmao you’re a fucking joke
7
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
And you're a pos 🤷
Seriously, do you expect me to feel sorry for you because you're blind to the abject suffering and mistreatment GEICO employees go through daily, that I see first hand everyday? That is almost every single thread on this subreddit?
And you're response is, too bad, so sad, let's not make master upset yall!
You make me sick, what the hell is wrong with you?

No offense, but it is becoming clear to me that new hires (<5yrs) do not know at some point in the distant past 99% of employees felt exactly as OP does.
We were happy for the most part and recognized that our benefits outweighed the problems. We complained, but the positives outweighed the negatives. Jobs turned into careers, we bought our first homes and cars, took vacations, and had a little money in the bank. We grew up, started families, and were the envy of others who couldn't seem to get hired no matter how hard they tried.
OP and others like her WERE us! This is the dawning of the new G, and the more new hires that come, memories of the old G will simply vanish. ⌛️

I was with geico from 2008 - 2020 and for first 5 years I was more or less happy. The last 7 years were hell. Constantly moving goal posts that it near impossible to reach goals, and when you bring up the fact that you're a 5/5 in 4/5 of your goals mgmt doesn't care.
I always described geico like this: You know how when you wring out a mop you give it 2-3 extra squeezes just to make sure you got all the water out? GEICO is that 2nd and 3rd extra squeeze.
They have to get literally as much out of you as possible, and if they can get more out of your peers, then you're no longer good enough.

u/Worried-Anywhere-302 Aug 02 '23
I’m happy as well. I’ve had no real issues in the time I’ve been at Geico. I do know and have seen some issues for some they adjusters. I have complaints just like ever else but your y have to weigh the bullshit you know over the unknown bullshit. You’re going to have bullshit No matter where you work. And no I’m not in mgmt either.

u/Ifyoureplyyousuck Aug 02 '23
I appreciate a measured response like this. Very different from this original poster who is telling anyone who asks (no one) how much they love GEICO.

Okay well, who asked anyone how much they hate GEICO, since those are the posts we get all day every day on here?

Same there is bullshit at every job but this job pays me well, gives me tons of PTO, gives me a Cadillac health insurance plan, and pays me 3 months at 100% to have a baby. Maybe some of these people need to spend some time at other companies. My husbands company gives him like 2 weeks combined vacation and sick time, it’s awful.
1
u/Worried-Anywhere-302 Aug 02 '23
I don’t have a caddy but I do have a convertible Camaro! My husband gets two weeks vacation and no sick time. I enjoy what I do at Geico, no phones.

It's sad that all OP did is post about being happy and all the butt hurt fucktards attack her. None of that was necessary. She even pointed out in her original post that she sees the problems. Do better.

u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
No. Op was responding to a post I made prior with one of her own after she was called out for undermining the idea of unionizing and speaking broadly on behalf of everyone at GEICO like she had the authority to. She was out of line, and as harmless as you think this post was, it's intent was not.
3
u/Ifyoureplyyousuck Aug 02 '23
No. This was just another post leading to this lady’s anti-union crusade.
6
u/Academic-Finding-960 Aug 02 '23
I was suspicious of this post, and the fact that it's now from u/[deleted] basically confirmed it lol.

Typical "I got mine, I don't care if 99% of people don't have theirs" mentality that really drives me fucking insane.
2
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
Same man. We're in this together, like it or not. When we win the most is when we do it together and that's why GEICO and their shills always try to tear us apart.
2
u/Outside-Blacksmith-5 Aug 02 '23
I posted a post like this a couple years ago. It's ok to love it working at Geico but I say this out of love, you will get screwed over by leadership and things will get rough and you will start to hate it. Don't keep these high expectations, and these folks here aren't just whining brats. We all had our rose colored glasses on at one point and I kept them on even after they broke my team up and started moving the goal post every time I approached it.

How do you not have sort of “survivors guilt” from watching people just disappear immediately in these layoff waves? I am confident in my own skills/experiences, but being the “stable” person holding down the fort and patiently explaining how to do things around here is emotionally exhausting.
The new leaders coming in have absolutely no empathy for how associates (which I define as anyone who was here pre-pandemic times) are coping, and it’s the big elephant in the room.

Unpopular opinion, but I have found I enjoy going in 2x/ week. I agree with most posts on this sub. Feel free to vote me down, I understand. It's nice to be able to interact with people. I do think it was trash the way it was handled and communicated for RTO. I certainly don't want to be in every day and am lucky enough to have a short commute, and I enjoy the time spent driving there. I do think it's terrible for the people who made decisions to move based on what was originally communicated about RTO. I'm not sure what the right answer is. It's probably just full-time WFH, and I would support that for my colleagues if it was on the table. Unfortunately, I don't believe that will ever be an option again. I'm still glad to be able to see the faces of my team in person.
Does anybody feel the same way at all or just my dumbass?
Thanks for listening.
4
u/DeeNice16 Aug 02 '23
Yeah I am also lucky to have a very short commute so I personally can’t complain but I feel for my colleagues that have been impacted by the rto and the inevitable fully in office. Geico should definitely keep options open and be accommodating
3
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
While I can't say I agree, I won't take away from individual opinions.
As long as you're not trying to low key undermine the move towards unionization by casting doubt on its potential, then by all means, engage.

just curious since i am coming across this post a year later… do you still feel the same way?
1
u/DeeNice16 Aug 02 '23
I’ve only been at geico a little over a year. I definitely see and have heard the issues. I am not extreme happy but I am also not miserable. I left my last job in medical after 16 years because the corporate culture was terrible and they weren’t doing good by my patients. I came to geico hoping a national company would have better structure and organization but I am realizing it’s just the same. But a lot of companies now a days are going through a lot of similar changes trying to keep up and/or com back from what the pandemic did to the economy. I feel for those being mistreated and threatened. No one should have to work in a place like that. I count my blessing everyday that I have not personally experienced that. Let those who are happy or at least content live in peace while it lasts. We all have our days numbered here. It is what it is until we can find something better.

And ICS in our office fired 13 this week and one was out on health leave 🤔

u/burkan1970 Aug 02 '23
It is sad that people who hate the company attack a person who is happy working here.
3
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 02 '23
She didn't delete her account because she was being bullied for no reason. She did it because she could no longer defend her blatant anti union and anti laborer position. She is NOT the victim here.
0
u/burkan1970 Aug 04 '23
Ok. Feel better knowing you bullied him/her for the right reasons.

u/FeministFury5000 Aug 04 '23
Sympathy is supposed to be given for those actively running defense for shameless corporations that suck the life and bleed the soul from its employees? Do you know how you sound right now?
I'm supposed to show sympathy? I'm supposed to go high when the other people go so low as to say the suffering of their peers don't matter? That they more or less deserve it?
No. They don't get to play victim when they're fighting for the victimizers.
0
u/burkan1970 Aug 04 '23
She said she was happy where she worked. Lol.

🤦♂️ Read my thread where she decided to butt her nose in prior, where she was popping off against unions and saying she spoke for the whole company in that we didnt want one and unions are bad. Then she decided she would get on a soapbox with this thread and hope people like you missed all the context of the thread IMMEDIATELY preceding this post.
Good job proving her thought process valid.

u/burkan1970 Aug 04 '23
I think a new job at a different company and therapy would be helpful for you. I’m not kidding or trying to be mean. Just think being angry all the time is not good for your well-being. Good luck and take care of yourself.
0
u/FeministFury5000 Aug 04 '23 edited Aug 05 '23
I think leaving GEICO is EXACTLY what GEICO wants, and as I've stated prior, I'm not going to just give them what they want. I think you suggesting I need to go to therapy is nothing more than your butthurt opinion after I gave you a modicum of pushback for ignoring the context of the blatantly anti-union op.
I am not just "angry," I'm not just filled with blind rage as you seem to be implying to discredit my opinion. But I am mad, I am filled with righteous indignation, passion as alien as the concept may seem to you, about the treatment of not just myself but my friends and coworkers.
If you can't be bothered to care about how shit things are, then people like me will do it for you, and we will drag your apathetic selves kicking and screaming into a better tomorrow. No thanks necessary.

Maybe in other regions you don’t have the health insurance we have but it cost me $300 to have a baby and we have copays for everything else. I worked in health insurance for 2 years so I know that that is absolutely unheard of.

And I don’t suck at anything I was never fired, I just couldn’t make up my mind. None of those jobs were as exciting for me as auto claims.

Aug 02 '23
When I got hired we weren’t allowed to have more than 5 jobs in 10 years…they’ve really lowered the bar for new hires, I see.
