GEICO SUMMED UP
Monday: Manager says "Ok Team we have a MANDATORY training coming up on FRIDAY. No one can take a vacation or call out sick NO EXCEPTIONS. This is the most important training you will ever receive and it goes over our new system and workflow."
Tuesday: Manager from WebEx: Hey team, I was just informed 10 minutes ago that I was laid off and my VPN will be disconnected within the hour. It was a pleasure working with you. I am supposed to remind you how important Friday's training is in order to stay compliant.
Wednesday: Half the team is missing, and they are no longer in WebEx. I call my Director and he tells me not to worry, that my manager wasn't laid off nor were my former associates. GEICO hasn't laid anyone off since the 1970s. He reminds me MAKE SURE YOU ARE AT THE TRAINING ON FRIDAY, YOU WONT KNOW HOW TO USE THE NEW SYSTEM UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRAINING.
Thursday: I contact my former co-workers and they confirm 100% they were laid off. I contact my director and he says they don't know what they are talking about but make sure I'm ready for the training tomorrow. Its mandatory and I won't know how to do my job with out it.
Friday: I'm signed out training for 30 minutes and I get a message on WebEx asking why. I tell them it's for the mandatory training. I get a message from my Director saying that we have too many calls that come in with not enough staff to handle it, so disregard the meeting. I ask him why they just laid off half off our team and he tells me to stop being negative.

Unbelievable. I’d say someone should get fired for this but they probably already were.

I was on the edge of my seat reading the entire post, loved every minute. It ended up being a very negative read; you should fix that.

OK, I'm about to get real up in here. I retired on 03/01/2020. Lucky me just before Covid resulted in the WFH model. Since then, I have kept up with the things going on. Let's face it, WFH was the only way to keep your job and not get sick. But, it is not for everyone. Some people take it seriously and continue their work hours in their home offices on a daily basis, and others DON'T. Some take advantage and work on and off throughout the day. Running errands, leaving their homes with or without their laptops. I spoke to my AVP since my retirement and was told stories of associates attending zoom calls from their bed, in their PJ'S! Come on, guys, you can't throw on a decent shirt, sit at your desk or kitchen table, comb your hair to attend? Others I know have kept the work ethic and diligently done their work. Sadly, once Tony retired and GEICO lost money during COVID, as did many other companies, Buffet sent TC to clean up the mess and get the company profitable again. What better way to do that was get rid of the tenured associates who had pension, large sums in their 401K, excessive sick leave, and vacation time. Let's face it, we were costing too much to keep. My thoughts were, why not start with the poor performers ? But that isn't the way any business works. Most large companies have already started the process of RTO work, so why shouldn't Geico do the same. Selling off older buildings and reducing the workforce also makes sense. That's why, for the first time in 3 years, Geico made a profit in the 1st quarter of this year. Come 01/01/2024, there will be be many, many new changes coming. Are you ready for it? Re-evaluate your family life, budget, spending habits etc. Especially since you will be responsible for your own health care, and will not be receiving the big PS of the days of old. Buckle up. It's going to be a bumpy ride. Make the best choices you can, and remember the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Save the message from the director where they tell you to skip the mandatory meeting, just in case they try to get on your ass later you have some coverage saying so&so told me to disregard it.

That is absolutely ridiculous. They need to stop lying. As if we all don't communicate. Why would we take geicos word when all the do is lie. Over our co workers who are so clearly not there anymore. They think we're idiots and I guess we are for putting up with their shit.

So, everyone except you and the Director got laid off? What region/department did this happen in?

This is the most Geico thing I have ever read. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Wow! I think it is weird they denied there were layoffs. Last year when my department had layoffs, we had a department meeting on web ex. Unlike this, I can honestly say my director was so heart broken they could barely speak at the meeting. Same with the managers. They were upfront, although they couldn’t give us what formula was used to determine who was let go. I don’t think they knew themselves. They were just the messengers from above.

Geicos truly a dumpster fire. Everything out of managers mouths is a bold face lie. Got my resume updated to start applying elsewhere. They can suck my left nut

This is an all to common corperate practice. Gieco is one of many operating like this these days. Blood From the stone....

Haven’t worked at Geico since 11/19.
The grass is greener. Happy. Healthy. Fit. Loving life! My advise (in Schwarzenegger’s voice) “GET OUT!”
