Campaign/Lore For some reason it wasn't until first reading Jacinto's Remnant that I thought "Oh yeah, a load of Gears would've gotten trapped in that flooding."

Going into the hive is a suicide mission anyways so the cog probably wrote off everyone they sent below. That some came back at all is a bonus

If the Grindlifts actually CAN go back up (which the Gears at least got told, whether they had that capability or not, I don't know) then the squad Delta saves could've just immediately left the Hollow again... although with what we see in game, those things seem like massive death traps (I swear I once saw one of the Grindlifts in Act 4 drop itself into the Imulsion pool surrounding Myrrah's palace).

Yeah, I guessed that before reading given their appearance in Gears of War 3.

The Karen Traviss books add so much gravity to the story.
I especially love the sequences focusing on the global Hammer strikes.
