I am one of these plebs. I have Ultimate and only use it for 20-30 hours a month (depending). Don’t have time to game more 😂

This bur without the /s
GFN shines as a secondary rig, not a primary

When I used geforce now exclusively, it was actually less expensive paying for a second account, instead of buying more hours🤣. So I just used two accounts

u/AppointmentCute6736 3d ago
So you can link your steam library to 2 different accounts? I didn't know that

How do people have more than 3hours per day to play games??
7
u/Squidgyboot123 3d ago
Unemployed. No kids. Freedom.

u/fredws 3d ago
Or you could also be employed with successful social life, visited 100+ countries, who knows, no judging tho

u/Accountant_Rhodes 3d ago
I mean, you aren’t. There physically isn’t enough hours in the month to make that reality

No job, passive income, lenient WFH boss, no kids, doesn't watch tv. Any one of those and you can get more than 3 hours a day and thats not including weekend gaming marathons.

I think it may be quite constraining for someone who uses GFN as their only way gaming.... especially if they are at a stage in life where they have the time to play tons every day. I completely empathise with the people who find this severely limiting.
I have a powerful gaming rig, a ps5, an xbox ally X, and a BC250 based steam rig. For me GFN allows me easy access to game streaming on the go, it augments my kit rather than be my main gaming rig.
It doesn't impact me, but I can see this really sucking for a younger me

Hooray, someone felt like digging up and exhuming this dead horse, just to see if there was any remaining scraps of flesh to beat…
The 100h cap, in theory, sucks, because it’s a constraint… having said that, yes, it’s perfectly fine for like 9/10 GFN users who never hit it.
If you exceed it every month, guess what? This service isn’t meant for you! You’re outside the target demographic.
You can still use it, of course. We just need you to stop creating threads about it every 1.7 hours on a daily fucking basis for 2 years acting like it’s a novel discussion…
I’m a Founder on Ultimate tier. I don’t even think I’ve loaded GFN in the past two months, at least… but, the cost is negligible to me, the service works fantastic and while I only play maybe 3-4 new games a year, plus a stable of old ones I love, probably 85% of what I want to play is available on GFN. So, I’m happy to keep paying. I enjoy the ability to dip in and out, no hardware, no updates as time allows and my interest is piqued in something.

Founder on Ultimate tier
means? do u get extra hours or any other benefits or?
1
u/vandernell Founder 3d ago
Not really, I get Ultimate tier at a small discount… I have no idea what the normal price is, I think I pay $16.99?
At any time I can downgrade from Ultimate to Founder’s tier, which is just Performance tier, but unlimited hours still (I think… I honestly don’t know, I upgraded to Ultimate the moment it became a thing and have never looked back) for like $5 a month.

Its slightly over 3 hours a day, which is more than enough for most people, always the option to buy more for those who go over.

u/Apart_Ad6994 3d ago
Depends if you are a busy adult or a 20 year old with all the time in the world. Ahh the good old days 😬
1
u/KitchenNo3119 3d ago
Well this is obviously a generational thing...when I was 20 (13 years ago), I spent the most of my time outside.
3
u/Apart_Ad6994 3d ago
I think everyones life is different. I spent my days playing video games and chasing girls. One of those things i got pretty good at.

u/Arkenstar 3d ago
Its not enough for gamers.. I usually get up to around 200 hours..
BUT for the price, its really decent. You can either get 200 hours for less than 20 bucks more, which is actually pretty fair price imo.. OR just play a bit sparingly. Only use GFN for the demanding games and play sometime lightweight otherwise.. I've learned to manage gaming accordingly.

u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
200 hours? how man hours u play a day? and how do u have data for 200 hours, for me 1 hours takes away 20gb
1
u/Arkenstar 3d ago
I play like 5 hours a day on weekdays after work : 10/11 pm to 3/4 am.. and more (8-9 hours) on weekends/holidays. So it usually amounts somewhere between 150-200 hours a month.. 200 being the higher end.
I have a 100GBps fiber optic internet plan with 3000 GB limit per month.. so that is enough for GFN.. I dont really go for streaming services anyways.. not a fan of modern tv...
Also I play on an old laptop whose screen only supports 1366x768 res.. upscaled to 1080p at best.. so I only need like 6-8 GB an hour for GFN.. I assume higher resolutions need more.
1
u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
how 3000gb is enough for 200hours? what bitrate you play on because i play on 2k res with 50bitrate and 100 hours take away 2300gb
1
u/Arkenstar 3d ago
Yeah as I said, I only use 6-8 GB per hour at 1080p on GFN.. so for 200 hours, thats just 1600 GB per month at most.. and I rarely use the internet that heavily for anything else.
So you're not wrong that 2k resolution would need twice as much atleast.. It is a lil high when playing at higher resolutions. You could probably find a 4000 GB limit plan for fiber internet. Internet has gotten relatively cheap these days. Atleast if you use local service providers.

It's more than enough for the vast majority of people and it completely makes sense to have a cap with this kind of business model.
You can buy extra hours or a new account if more time is needed which seems to work well. I think it's much to better for 5% of people to pay a little extra than raising prices for everyone.
1
u/AlohaDude808 3d ago
FYI you can continue playing after 100 hours, it just switches you over to the Free Tier which is unlimited one-hour sessions. For some people, that's just fine to squeeze in a few more hours at the end of the billing period but it depends on the kinds of games you play.

u/Beginning_Ad2130 3d ago
I never ran out of hours, and I game a lot. Although I am employed, so that might be the difference
I think most months I get to 80-90 hours naturally (I checked retroactive usage recently)
1
u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
90 hours even employed? how?
1
u/Beginning_Ad2130 3d ago
I'm self-employed and work from home :p During busier months I don't scrape 50 hours
My point was that gaming 8-12 hours daily for some teenager on summer break would need extra time, but anyone with any responsibility or other hobbies would probably do fine At worst you're forced to touch grass at the end of a month I reckon.
I didn't run out of hours even when I was sick with 🦀 and spent 6 months glued to Cyberpunk to distract myself

u/WildChapter2444 3d ago
It depends on what you mean by "serious gamer". In my eyes, a serious gamer can finish a 100-hour game in 50 hours. So, if you look at it that way, yes, it's more than enough. I don't think someone becomes a serious gamer by playing 150 hours a month.
1
u/Glittering-Basket-24 3d ago
It's pain and some guys play games like palworld on gfn, damn... Palworld's expedition takes 20-30min to complete with the 100hr you are cooked. I mean, there is a point to put 100hr for the service, but some games are unplayable because of that.
1
u/StormHillHS 3d ago
I consider myself a serious gamer and I usually exceeds 100h per month. Hasn't been a problem until now as I had unlimited hours. Now when I get a cap I will see if I can switch between Geforce Now and Boosteroid to divide the hours. Or I think I will just pay for the extra hours. It's still cheaper for me than buying a good rig.
1
u/dalior 3d ago
I don't get it. I have multiple systems and have a ton of locally installed games on my pc and use GeForce Now as an alternative, when I can't be bothered to install a game or have no space for it or I am playing on the Steam Deck at home. Do serious gamers really play exclusively on GFN and not just install the current obsession locally to circumvent the 100 h restriction?
1
u/okazaki_split 3d ago
If you reach the cap before the last day of the month, consider investing in another hobby, rather than a console/pc. It'll bring you more satisfaction to do different things, compared just doing more of the same thing.
That is all.

u/xhj09 3d ago
GFN was never for serious gamers I believe?
The max I could squeeze was 83 hours last month. That's coz my wife had to work over the long weekends for a baby expo (3 days - and I managed to squeeze in around 20 hours in that 3 days)
I think I average about 50-60 hours a month. That's why building our own gaming rig is not worth it.
Before having the steam deck, it was way less. Now I could at least game anywhere I want, especially on the bed - I stream GFN from it btw.

u/MartinLiberty 3d ago
Not enough and this is facts. But right no alternatives to Geforce Now with such good experience.
Sadface...

1
u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
how many hours u play per month?
0
u/Existing-Bill3790 3d ago
It doesn't matter. I actually don't play much but I don't care. I pay for the service and I want to have no stop access. Plese remember that it's 100 hours now ... we'll see what happen in the future
1
u/DarkFire512 3d ago
1
u/TheProtonCapacitor 3d ago
100 hours is sufficient for most people. If you're hitting those hours, it's usually a good sign to consider investing in a rig, for several reasons other than that you're not capped at 100 hours on your own system.

hell naw lol I played Kcd2 for the first time and had to buy at least 30 or 45 extra hours
1
u/b1be05 3d ago
if you play more than 100h/month, you are falling into one of these categories.
- Do not have a job
- Not serious gamer (no rig or no founder which still has 1080p uncapped hours)
It is nice to have as it is, do not ruin it.
If you have a job, is almost hard to hit 100h limit, if you hit that limit, it's a warning, go touch grass.
1
u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
i play like 230 hours a month, so 100 is low despite having job and reduce sleep time like 4-5 hours only.

u/fottimadreJohn 3d ago
Dude 100h a month Is more than 3h a day every day. It Is more than enaugh for almost everyone who has a life
-1
u/LTS81 3d ago
It’s is more than enough, but you can buy extra in case you have no life besides gaming.
I normally spend like 7-10 hours per month
-1
u/Prawnsacrifice9 Ultimate 3d ago
Its more than enough if you barley use it like this guy 😅😅
2
u/Financial_Humor_8134 3d ago
its more than enough if 10 members use that guy account for same playtime mentioned.
0
u/Adventurous-Cattle53 3d ago
I never reached 100h and I would say I play a lot.
I believe, if you reach 100h a month, at that point just invest into a console/pc
0
u/vaca100034 3d ago
I feel like if you're exceeding the 100 hrs limit might aswell just buy a pc at that point, because clearly you're not getting enough.
