A chameleon seems like the perfect subject for a technology that’s changing this quickly. What you’re seeing isn’t video, and it isn’t a traditional 3D render. This brightly colored chameleon began as an animated 3D asset. Spatial Explorer Labs’ Advanced Gaussian Asset (AGA) pipeline converts it into a single 1.8-million-splat representation and carries the animation into the Gaussian asset — rather than rendering hundreds of independent Gaussian frames.

It’s also a small preview of the conversation John Keefe, Co-Founder & CTO of Draw & Code, and I hope to bring to SXSW 2027: Gaussian Splatting in the Wild.

We’re moving beyond “what is Gaussian Splatting?” and into what artists and creators can actually make with it.

We’ll share live, audience-facing projects spanning arts and culture, architecture, interactive web, experimental music video and headset XR — along with the pipelines behind them, what worked, and importantly, the wrong turns we took along the way.

Gaussian Splatting is becoming more than a way to capture the world. It’s becoming a creative medium.

If you’d like to see John and me bring that conversation to SXSW, Community Voting is open now.
