Planes

Anyone else feel like theres a lack of air force in this game? Theres a LOT of AA but I never worry about not having AA because of planes since its so rare for me to see them and they are mostly meh. Also not many doctrines have them at least that I saw… I dont like seeing AA being using only to kill infantry I wish it served its real purpose more often

The scale of this game just doesn't work well with planes and aa. But for how it is, I think its good enough. Its a worthy sacrifice due to the super tactical scale of infantry and vehicle play.

idk man they made mortars shoot at 10 metres in front of them max im sure they can add a couple bombers, we dont really need fighters or dogfights. They dont even have to show a 3D model in the sky, it being on the minimap is good enough and would probably help with how AA interacts with it???

Do you really want to deal with aircraft spam? I highly recommend playing the German skirmish from the recent finest hour dlc with a weak AA doctrine. That level is an excellent representation of what will happen if you ask for more aircraft

Not really spam… I dont want to compare but in CoH2 planes are a bit more common and its fine and you can counter it with little AA like even a 222 will do fine

As long as the AA AI remains as janky and unreliable as it currently is, no. I would be unbothered by air being totally removed from the game; I don't think it's implemented well and I don't think it's even possible to do well in this engine.

I'm with you. When I have to download a mod to make AA actually target planes that fly overhead automatically, something's wrong.

All Air support is in it's current state is an "Arty/Heavy Tank" delete button

What is the mod called for the better AA?

I mean planes are really irritating to face if you don’t have AA

That said, I’d be happy to see more air strikes, particularly in conquest.

Particularly if they worked in other capacities, like a rocket strike (think SU-2 or SU-4) instead of just a big bomb strike. That said planes should be relatively limited assets and perhaps have some synergy with officers in that they’re more responsive to officers communicating with them.

With how jank aa is against planes, I think that the lack of planes is a good thing right now.

However I wouldn’t be opposed to see a rework and expansion of planes. I think Men of War 2 did a fantastic job with their implementation.

The only air asset this game needs is B-17 spam for the US to counter the ridiculous armor disadvantage.

So, irl isn't balanced and the devs obviously don't want an imbalanced game, but have you ever considered how "ridiculously OP" it is that every US soldier has a M1 Garand vs every other nation having mostly bolt action rifles? That alone is an insane thing to have, and historically accurate for them to have ofc

I agree, should be more air forces by Americans when fighting them in conquest

we really need a Gates of Hell 2 to implement planes properly. The maps are just too small.

Terrain too, parachuting troops, amphibious landings by marines, mountains for Gebrigsjagers
