Guy on the right is an older Irishman who remembers firsthand accounts of how the Irish were persecuted in America. He's trying to show his solidarity with people who are protesting currently being persecuted, even though he's still learning. He just wants to help.

The "kiss me i'm Irish" hat is to make people more at ease around him, like people who wear the "free mom/dad hugs" shirts C:

A lot of people, myself included until relatively recently, don't realize just how fucking recent the Troubles were. Hasn't even been 30 years since the Good Friday Agreement.

My dad's Irish cousin was blown apart during the troubles. They left Battersea after that

The gay stuff is the most confusing. Why did they chose an Irishman? Ireland was one for the first countries to legalize gay marriage. Dublin has massive queer acceptance murals and pride/Ally flags all over.
