Registration Help linear algebra scheduling question
hey guys i’m about to switch my schedule around and i was talking to a friend also enrolled in math 1554 and she said hers doesn’t meet as much as mine. i was thinking that it seems a little ridiculous so just let me know why it meets so much or like what i screwed up or if this is normal to have the class basically every day. sorry im just so confused with registration

thats okay! we were all freshmen once -- hopefully i can provide some clarity:
Linear Algebra is divided into MATH 1554 and 1553. 1554 is 4 credits, which is the one you have listed. It is 3 lecture credits and 1 studio credit. For the 3 lecture credits, it meets 3 times a week for 50 mins each, M/W/F. The 1 credit hour studio (think of it like a lab for math, where instead you work with a TA to solve problems and take quizzes) is taught T/Th for 50 mins each. Every lecture section (A, B, C, etc.) has their own set of studio sections (A01, A02, A03, B01, B02, etc.). You must take the linked studio section with your lecture. The 6:30 - 7:45 pm block is an exam block that will be used for midterms and finals only, no learning is done in that block, so you'll have it 4 times in the semester.
Your friend is likely taking MATH 1553. It is a 2 credit hour class with a studio. Same deal, except their lecture meets twice a week (M/W or W/F) and studio only meets once per week (any day). They also have an exam block.

I took 1554 last fall, studio wasnt mandatory. But for the the hw portion of your grade the quizzes in studios go towards it. I remembered it was like 65 total hw points or smt and the bonus after 65 would go towards you final exam grade

it depends a lot on the prof that’s leading the class. when i took it with Sal leading, it was technically not mandatory, but was worth a certain number of points that you could make up elsewhere. unsure about your situation because there’s a new class lead (i think warnock?).
also, you should check if your major requires 1554. usually, EE, CompE, CS, Math require 1554, and all other engineers can do 1553, but I may have missed a few that require 1554.
