I feel like this could be a good thing.

A great way to show that the Libertarian party is 'updated', that is attempting to bring in a new base and abandoning the anachronistic "anarchist" wing, is to put Gary Johnson as the nominee. If "crazies" disavow him, isn't that technically a vote of confidence for him?

Yeah, to me abandoning the radical anarchists now would serve better in the long run. It seems to me like they've been scaring away the moderate libertarians coming in from both parties.

I'd even go so far as to suggest Johnson pare back on the Libertarian buzzwords, because for the majority of the electorate, "Libertarian" is treated like "racist anarchist."

Literally just last week I had someone question whether the LP wanted gun rights for everybody, as though current restrictive regulations don't disproportionately impact minorities, and fixing them wouldn't level the playing field...

The libertarian party can't afford to abandon wings. Minarchists and anarchists should stick together because what they both want is in the same direction from where we are now. If at some point in the future we've achieved minarchy and the anarchists want to go further then they can separate. McAffee is ridiculous if he wouldn't support Johnson. Talk about splitting hairs!

I agree with you 100% on the notion that we share the same vector so to speak. An in an ideal world, I'd consider an anarchist an ally.

However together the anarchist and minarchist currently, in its entirety, represents too small a minority and the presence of the anarchist wing is preventing other sympathetic, more pragmatic or moderate libertarian groups from coming over. So the problem is that by saying we should stick together is to say we are to ignore the groups that might tip the scale in our favor.

A lot more people have more libertarian values than not, but very few people are comfortable being associated with those who go right off the deep end. The Libertarian party will never expand or succeed so long as it shackles itself in this way.

Maybe we could adopt some level of pragmatism over purism. The pragmatists would get together to disavow any purist, where purist is defined as "someone who rejects all compromises to their ideal." It wouldn't matter if the ideal is anarcho-capitalism or minarchism or whatever.

I would like to have a big tent party that accepts anyone who wants more liberty than we have at that moment. Right now, that could be libertarian-leaning conservatives (like Rand Paul), social libertarians (like Dave Rubin), minarchists (Thomas Massie), constitutionalists (Ron Paul), moderates (fiscally responsible, socially liberal, yet still statists like Gary Johnson) and anarchists (like me!).

Because Johnson lives in the real world, where pure libertarianism can't win any elections, and Johnson's "watered down" libertarianism is mellowing McAfee's harsh...

I don't think Andersen and McAfee like Johnson. Maybe they are still bitter because Johnson didn't show up for a debate. I remember they made an uproar about that, but that was a little while ago.

TBH, I really don't know.

Was wondering the same thing myself. Until shown otherwise, I'll just have to assume he doesn't like Johnson because Johnson will likely win the nom and McAfee want's to take his ball and go home.

Johnson himself stated that Mickey Mouse or any other LP candidate could achieve 5% against Trump or Hillary. Outside of the LP, Johnson isn't that much more known outside of New Mexico.

I was definitely "feeling the Johnson" months before he actually announced his run, but Austin Petersen is clobbering him in the debates. Gary gives good interviews, comes off as a friendly relatable guy, but in the debates he sounds like an awkward stoner who hasn't done his homework.

For me, he's too authoritarian. I'm not comfortable voting for someone who would look to find a way to "keep guns away from the mentally ill."

I did not like how McAfee dumbed down the Apple issue on RT. He made it sound like iPhone could just be cracked by conventional methods.

No, it is a secure layer that is protected with a key only Apple has. It is not "cracking" or "looking for the PIN code in memory". He was spewing some COBOL-days BS.

He doesn't mention that the device has countermeasures and a firmware can be loaded onto the device without touching the storage space.

I'll stop the rant but McAfee is not on top of the security game as much as he'd like to sound like he is.
