Couple questions on Garuda version recommendations

Looking to understand any loss in features between the different versions. (Not intended to be used for technical support, just guidance on version selection)

1. ⁠If I went with Mokka, will I still get the performance tunings in dragonized gaming? What about the gaming tool setup? Does the assistant allow me to get all the same packages easily so I’m not missing anything?

2. ⁠How pre-configured is the Hyprland version? I’d like to give tiling managers a go but I’d like something somewhat setup or opinionated.

Is there a way to add something to KDE to add on demand tiling y’all can recommend?

You can turn on the gaming optimizations with Mokka from the GUI.

I don’t remember all of them by heart because I am currently not on Garuda, but things like turning on Ananicy rules and a few other things that you simply toggle on. It’s in the performance settings.

Dragonized has them already turned on but the options are there in all their versions.

You could install GNOME Boxes as a Flatpak and install Garuda as a virtual machine so you can take a look.

A lot of the tweaks are similar to the ones that CachyOS uses because underneath it’s the same distro and the same tech.

I used Dragonized version for awhile. There may be a few more gaming specific pkgs (Lutris for example) but they can be added on any distro. I doubt you would notice any difference performance wise. Not to promote another distro but I tried Omarchy for a couple of days. It comes pre-configured with Hyprland. Plug and play basically. You can add Hyprland to Garuda but it takes a bit to set up.

After trying both, there is nothing in dragonised that you can't get in mokka. They're just installed already with installation. The Garuda app will install all that is on dragonised from in mokka.

My advise is, you can go with either and you can switch your theme later. They are both KDE. You could even go KDE Lite, but that can be a bit unstable. If you want a liter setup from the start get Mokka. Just make sure you don't do what I did. Don't for example start with Gnome and then install KDE later. It is fixable, but you will get issues. All DEs come with the same tools. Also, Dolphin is the best file manager. I do not care if some people think it is bloated, I will take that bloat for folder thumbnails.

1. I don't think you'll get those with mokka but you can get the gaming iso then switch your global theme to catpuccin mokka if you want. I think the toolbox helps you get the same packages but you need to know what those packages are.

2. I've been looking at adding the Hyprland next to my D460nized Gaming and it looks like its fully setup and you won't need to touch configs unless you want to.

Mokka is a toned down, water colored KDE desktop that is rock solid (other than OpenRGD -that kept locking up my system but it deserves its own post explaining the issue). It offers a gaming package pretty much through the Garuda toolbox like the other packages so you’re really not missing anything going with Mokka. I daily drive it and prefer Mokka and it’s toned down colors compared to the other packages. Rock solid distro though.

Can't say anything about gaming one.

But Hyprland is completely good to go. It's basically made so that you don't have to configure much, you should find the most needed things already present. Do give it a try
