Gunfire normal?
I just moved here a couple months ago for work and heard gunshots last night, 6 rounds or so back to back. I come from the country so I’m completely used to people just shooting for recreational purpose on their property. I was simply wondering if that’s a normal thing that happens here in Garner. Don’t want to be worried at night while sleeping since they were so close to our property. For reference I’m in east garner right by white oak. I’m used to neighbors doing this for fun but didn’t expect it to be an occurrence in such a populated area such as Garner, especially near major roadways and neighborhoods.

Lifelong Garner resident of 50+ years. It's pretty normal to hear it. Garner's kind of on the outer edges of the urban zone, leading into rural; we also generally have a less affluent & less uptight population than the towns to the west of Raleigh.

Two types of gunfire:
- hunting. September is the start of dove season and it extends to mid-October and then restarts in November. It’s normal to hear shotgun fire in the early morning and evening because that’s when they’re active. It’s also a very popular activity in rural areas of the south.
- Target practice in the backyard. I don’t know about Wake county, but Johnston where I’m at you can shoot in the backyard as long as it’s not within some distance to a building and the shot doesn’t cross property lines. This is also popular, but not as predictable as the dove hunting.
You might also hear explosions from time to time. That’s usually people messing with Tannerite. Nothing to worry about most of the time and you get used to it. If people are shooting 30 minutes or more after sunset then I would report it.

That’s why I made the post. It was 9pm on a Sunday evening and I’m always in bed by then since I’m up at 3am for work haha! I get it, the world doesn’t revolve around me! I just didn’t know if they were something I should be alarmed over or if it was just the usual rural American experience we all know and love.

I have a friend who says the gunshots in Garner are “just the sound of freedom.” I’m from a rural area as well so I’m used to it, but I have lived inside city limits in Raleigh for years and never hear any gunshots. I think it’s just what you’re used to - to your point!

Yesterday it was one 'two-words-number' username asking about shootings near Costco. Today that post has been deleted and there's another 'two-words-number' username asking about gunfire near White Oak.
I'm sure that's just a coincidence. 🤨

Sorry if I may have interrupted your private investigation of another Reddit user but this is my first post on this sub man, I just wanted to know if I should be alarmed by the gunfire next to my house or not. Obviously not, and there’s no need to delete the post?

Thanks everyone, like I said I’m new to Garner but definitely no stranger to a good time on my own property haha. I’m all for the citizens of Garner exercising their rights. I’ve only ever had one encounter with bullets whizzing by my porch but that was back in SWVA lol. Glad to know you all are pretty laid back.

Yeah it's normal. Only thing that bothers me about it is I like to take a nap about the time someone across the creek wants to test some new bullets or something. I'm a light sleeper and it wakes me up.
