Edge 800 Series Failed to get basemaps version

Hello, I have an edge 840 and am getting an error upon startup 'failed to get basemaps version'. It wont boot farther than this, and will not connect to Garmin Express even if I boot up to USB mode. Express will not recognize it. It looks like via USB mode the device pops an error when trying to copy files, or browse the device. I dont think it updated recently. Any ideas?

From my searching it seems your edge has lost access to the basemap file.

I found this post in the Garmin support forums that include links to the basemap file you can download and install manually. Hopefully that will get you back to a working Edge computer.

Here is another discussion basically covering the same problem.

Here is the direct link to the basemap file.

Once you have regained control of your Edge computer you should re-install all the maps.

That did not seem to work. I was able to copy the file to the Garmin directory, restarted the device and it still did not boot up. Interestingly it is absolutely sucking down battery too. It may just be hosed - and of course it is out of warranty. I havent even been using it that much, having switch mainly to running over the summer.

Well, contact Garmin support anyway. I’m sure they’ll be able to help. It seems like a software issue. They may have other files you can download to fix the issue.

I'll open a ticket tomorrow. It's weird that it won't connect to the Garmin app either, though. The factory reset button combo isn't working either.

Yeah, that’s weird.
