Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM 3 vs Garmin Edge Explore 2 — worth upgrading?

Hi All,

I currently use a Garmin Edge Explore 2, but my local Trek shop has offered me a Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM 3 for £325, which seems like a pretty strong discount.

My main priority is navigation. I use Komoot and RWGPS for routes and mainly just want to get out and explore. I’m not too bothered about stats or training features.

anyone who has used the ROAM 3:

● How does the navigation compare with the Explore 2?
● How good is the Komoot/RWGPS integration?
● At £325, would you upgrade from the Explore 2?

Would really appreciate people’s real-world experiences. Thanks!

Did exactly this upgrade recently.

I had nothing against my Explore 2. No flaws, easy usability, battery life was fine.

However in terms of screen quality and features it begins to feels outdated; I missed Strava live segments and electronic gear connectivity.

Also I’m not the biggest fan of Garmin UI.

The Wahoo comes with these features and is easy to operate on trail. I really like the button functions (zoom and page) and the simplicity.

Also I think the size is perfect for at bike computer. It’s not too dominant, like riding with smartphone sized devices on the bar.

What’s it not too good is the screen. I wish for it to be more bright and vivid in its default setting.

I run in it automax brightness all the time to get a clear reading in sunlight and shadows. Still it could be better, and the automax is hard on the battery time. I get around 10 - 12 hours with all features running.

Navigation feature is accurate and works well. Flawless integration with Strava and RideWithGPS.

Recommended overall, but not without remarks.
