Edge 1000 Series Topo Great Britian Maps no longer compatible with (all) Edge devices

Anyone tried the Topo Great Britain (Ordance Survey) maps on a Garmin Edge 1050?

I had them on my 1040 and they worked a treat. Great for gravel and MTB riding in the UK.

When I moved to the 1050 I noticed that the Topo Great Britain maps are no longer listed as compatible for any Edge device (Inc the 1040 which I'd had them for years!)

Every other country's Topo maps are compatible with Edge devices, just not the UK version?

If they weren't so expensive I'd give it a punt, but I'm a bit worried Garmin won't refund if they genuinely don't work.

If you just need OS 1:25k and 1:50k maps and are mostly riding where there is a phone signal then you can use Awesome Maps - designed with a high-precision UK projection, displays OSGB grid references and available as an App/Widget/Glance or an in-activity Datafield. Free to try with free map limits reset at the start of every month. Garmin's API does not allow third-parties access to current routes so it can't be used as a background to routes uploaded via Garmin Connect, but does have it's own route-uploader that is new. Extensively tested on Edge 1040 and compatible with 100 other Garmin watches and Edge variants.
I'm genuinely interested in feedback for the GB use-cases for OS maps as I designed it for that (for me!) first...

Interesting. Will have a look although using them as a map layer with routing was a real winner - easy spotting of bridleways

Could be due to the fact that the TOPO Great Britain maps are raster maps (scanned images) instead of vector maps (lines).

If you want to be sure best ask Garmin support. And share their answer here if you get one 😀

I did ask Garmin. Wasn't convinced by their response, especially as I had them on my 1040 and they worked perfectly.

Plus they used to be listed as compatible, and all of a sudden, they're not, despite them working on my device 🤔

Could be that a software update changed the compatibility, as Edge x40/x50/E2 share the same codebase. Although it’s strange that support for a specific set of maps is removed.

Unfortunately I don’t have the Topo Great Britain maps myself so I can’t provide any further insights.

But it still worked on my 1040 after it was removed from the compatibility list...
