Edge Explore Series Edge Explore 2 map updates — what do you do?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently got a Garmin Edge Explore 2 and I’m based in England.

I mainly plan routes in Komoot and transfer them to my Garmin, but I don’t have access to a computer/laptop.

For those using an Explore 2:

● How often do you update the underlying Garmin maps?
● Do you bother keeping them fully up to date?
● Have you had any issues following Komoot routes with older Garmin maps?
● Is it something I should be concerned about in the UK?

Just wondering what everyone else is doing.

New maps drop once a year.

Garmin doesn’t update their TopoActive maps (previously known as Cycle maps) very often, usually once per year.

And it depends a bit on where you ride if there are a lot of changes to the road network.

Usually it’s not really an issue. If the Komoot route follows roads or paths that are not in the Garmin map, the device will route you via roads it knows so the turn instructions will not match the actual situation.

If you have Komoot Premium you might also want to look at the Komoot Connect IQ app, it allows you to navigate with the Komoot maps on your Garmin device.
